So how big of a difference would it make if say an ecu for a '97 legacy was put into my '93 legacy SS?

Wouldn't there be a problem with the '97 ECU being OBD2?

And isnt the 97 non-turbo?

The prospect seems absurd. Where do I even start?

Its connector is completely different. You'd have to hand-wire several dozen connections. It also doesn't mount at all in the same way.

It's meant for different injectors and a different MAF sensor. I don't think it has the logic to detect the different MAF sensor. It would basically be overfueling all the time, by varying amounts at different airflows.

It may run in some type of limp-home mode since it would have active OBD-II trouble codes for stuff like the rear oxygen sensor, EGR stuff, and fuel pressure sensors. If the Check Engine light is connected to the ECU it's probably on all the time.

The CEL light is on all the time, when they checked the codes, there were five of them and the guy said they shouldn't be on my car. Then he checked and said it was for a 97 legacy. This was at super rupair. The guy at Quality Auto sound said they usually have the dealer do the install.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around a dealer doing the kind of unusual work necessary to make a 97 ECU fit in a 1st-gen.

How did he even check the codes? Did the dealer also install an OBD-II connector in your car?

This can't be right...

He plugged the computer into the green connector under the dash. This seems really weird, but it would explain why when i put the 550 cc injectors in, I had to turn the afc to -50% to get the car to run ok.

The intake manifold on my car is off of a '97 legacy, could he have gotten a reading from that somehow?

Unless they rewired your entire car, I really doubt the guy knows what he was doing.

Yeh, i should be able to get the numbers off of the computer and have them checked out correct?
