So last night, I was to fix my Forester.

I grabbed a Big Mac and a double cheeseburger for lunch before I got to the shop, and felt great.

We finished up and I ran to Taco Bell to get a few Grilled Stuft burrito's. Of course, they suck if you don't drench them in Fire sauce (one package of which, had a very disturbing sexual innuendo printed on it. "Nice palm. I read a great deal of pleasure in your future").

So I eat my meal and the delectable nacho's that come with it, and I feel gooooood. My boss, not so good and immediately runs to the shitter. But I am feelin good.

But today, the abdominal tides have turned, and to put it plainly the people at the computers next to me continue to look around in a scared sort of panic trying to identify the source of the smell. So far, no fingers have been pointed.

Taco bell needs truth in advertising. Instead of masturbation innuendo, label Fire sauce "Corre al cuarto de Baño"

Corre is congugated using the 3rd person singular "you". Since I don't know the taco bell ad writers, it seems logical. It's unlikely to find ads in 2nd person singular in Mexico. I didn't see a single one when I was there.

Also, Baño means bath, not bathroom. Cuarto de baño is bathroom.

Translated literally: "You run to the room of bath." Say it in Mexico, "Run to the bathroom!" If it was myself, Phil, saying to you, Jared, I'd say "Corres al cuarto de baño" because it's informal, and I'm speaking directly to you. Also, since Taco Bell doesn't intend for more than one person to use the Fire Sauce packages at a time, singular conjugation is appropriate. They aren't telling EVERYONE to run to the bathroom, just the person who eats the fire sauce. They COULD say "Corre al cuarto de baño. Los otros corren afuera." Meaning "Run to the bathroom. Everyone else run outside."

Remember, To Run in spanish is Correr. Regular "ER" verbs conjucate the third person singular to "E". "A" is for verbs ending in "AR". Like the word hablar (to talk/speak) would be Habla.

While you could also say "Corra al cuarto de baño", it would come off much more harshly than the taco bell packages generally like to be. Often they are impersonal, and there is a difference between telling you to go to the bathroom and ordering you to go to the bathroom. One is percieved to be lighter and more relaxed. The other is percieved as an order.

I suppose for clarity, I should have written "Usted corre al cuarto de baño" so that Corre couldn't come off as potentially being plural (because in some instances it would read as he/she runs, but you translates as "you run" "you runs" doesn't make any sense.)

It's been a while since I took spanish, so I may be incorrect, but I could have sworn that I was right.

Corre is the correct imperative if you're speaking to tú. Corra is correct if you're speaking to usted.

And baño is often used to mean the room.

But the proper command would in fact be;
" corre al baño "
By definition bano does mean bath, but no one in any spanish speaking country is going to say "cuarto de baño" Its just not common practice or whats accepted. Kinda like some of our English slang that has become rule,instead of the text book proper way to say something. Kinda like the past tense form of hang being hangged not hung as is commonly said.

I did have to double check that with my sister who lives in la republica dominicana.

I think baño can be described as both depending on setting. I'd imagine Taco Bell to be sure to specify "Cuarto de baño". Since Baño also means "bath". So depending on location, they can be used interchangeably. Taco bell wouldn't want to offend by telling someone to "run to the bath!" Same goes if you ask to use the bathroom (in a house), if you aren't careful you might actually ask "please, may I use the bath?" That was the kind of shit I remember from 6th grade (the last time I took spanish).

It's a context thing where something may get lost in translation. You could say "baño" for bathroom, but someone may misinterpret you very easily. If you just get done playing soccer...er futbol, and come inside all dirty and ask to use the baño, there may be confusion (use the bath, or the bathroom?).

It's all application, and I think cuarto de baño would err on the side of caution, which is something Taco Bell would want to do.

I wonder if they have taco bells in mexico. And would it taste better? Or would they find it uterly despicable(sp?)

I didn't see a single taco bell when I was there, but I wasn't really looking....

In Toronto, though, the KFC/Taco Bell delivered. I think we almost spent $70CAD on boneless wings and soft taco's.

You were either thinking of the familiar second-person imperative or the third-person simple present.

Eh... Nobody who actually natively speaks Spanish would say cuarto de baño. So I guess it depends on who wrote the text on the packet.

Actually, they may be more likely to use the word sanitario.

If you're serious about learning a foreign language, I'd offer this as a bit of advice: As quickly as you can, stop thinking in terms of translating back and forth between your native language and the new language. Phrases and words that sound right in one language won't sound right in the other. This is of course a lofty goal, but ideally you want to start thinking in the new langauge.

When you visit a Spanish-speaking country, just make sure you know these two sentences:

¿Dónde está el baño?
¿Dónde está la cerveza?

Someone ought to come out with a Chinese or Thai version of Taco Bell...except it would Satay and Sushi instead of Tacos.

When I ate KFC in Colima Mexico I knew it was weird. Tasted oh so, what is the word? Strange? Off? Weird?

Then about an hour later I suffered either a heart attack (probably not), anaphalectic shock, or just heat stroke. I tend to blame it on KFC...

It wasnt my choice to buy KFC, but the family we were visiting were having it for the second time that week since the KFC has just opened, first one in the state of Colima!

Did anyone here ever see that episode of Cedric the Entertainer's short-lived variety show with ¿Que hora es?

Back in 92 I sued Taco Bell because I got a terrible case of Salmonella.

I missed so much school....not to mention my cullinary classes. That suacked ass!!! I did $8K out of the deal though. I still don't think my ass ever fully recovered.

After I sued them they said I could never drink pepsi products or eat at Taco Bell, KFC, or Pizza hut ever again.

Didn't take Spanish so until now did not know that bano meant the can.

However, it reminded of the Japanese word for the same thing---benjo.

Although the Romans could not have imagined such a thing as explosive food from Taco Bell, they had an appropriate phrase

Yeah, I prefer Jaun's (Taco Johns). All I have to say is taco tuesday.

DEL TACO gets my vote. Jose O'shea in Lakewood has the bomb ass garbage burrito. For great burritos that aren't so big go to the JY in Aurora, or the auto auction in Denver.

In FL it's Pueblo Vejo for the Burrito Verde.
