I'm writing a paper about Da Vinci for my art history class, and I'm trying to figure out the significance of his illustration of the "folding boat" first of all, I don't understand why the hell you would need a folding boat, why it was a scientific/engineering advancement, or where it folds. if anyone can help at all, I'm on art's pc, so the aim sn is ArturoVolp. any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

it literally looks like a boat that was meant to fold in the middle to be smaller for transportation...

the davinci one seems to fold front to back, with the hinge in the middle width-wise.. the porta-bote.com site shows a boat folding along it's length

who knows. just tell them da vinci was fascinated with saving space in his garage

I guess that makes sense, but still seems a little useless.

I'm a huge De Vinci fan, I think he might be the single greatest mind of all time.

A lot of his conceptions were pointed toward military use. In that light, think of a boat a man (or group of men) could trans port overland to make a water attack… could be useful.

I'm more a fan of his inventions and ideas than his art although they were often intermixed.

i argued that he's a better artist because of his inventions and illustrations of anatomy
