CEL problems...

So I took my car to a mechanic to get an errant idle looked at, the car had no CELs at the time. They can't find anything wrong and give me the car back. I leave and after driving for a minute the CEL starts flashing. I take the car back and the mechanic says he forgot to reconnect some plugs when he scanned the computer. So he goes under the dash and tells me it's fixed. I drive away and the CEL is gone, sweet except now the seatbelt light is stuck on. So I take it back again and he goes back under the dash. Now the seatbelt light goes off, so I leave. Now the CEL comes back on. I don't trust the moron to touch my car again, anyone know what he did? I can't find anything obvious when I'm under the dash.

Is the CEL flashing after a minute of driving now, or is it just steadily on?

It flashes after a minute or so of driving and continues flashing until I turn the car off.

Look for a pair of green connectors and a pair of black connectors, each with a single conductor

They should be unconnected.

Yup, what Splinter said. They're the connectors talked about here:

It's possible that the black pair of connectors is already disconnected.

You will have to remove the panel that is right below the steering wheel to get to them with any kind of ease.

Well I couldn't find any black connectors, but the green ones where there and connected. I disconnected them and now the check engine light just blinks all the time.

That means the black ones are probably connected.

Look around, they can be tricky to find.

the black connector is on the other side of the wiring harness comming out of the steering collum, they will be slightly out of site, just feel around be the harness at the collum.

Good Luck

The black harness is just one wire. One black wire that connects to another black wire. When they are connectred they tend to be hard to find as they are relativly a PITA to put together.

Well I tired but I couldn't find any black connector. I did find one on the other side of the steering column and being stupid, just decided to disconnect it. The CEL went away and the car still runs fine. Any idea what I disconnected?

Amazing what a little digging will do! Ive had nearly the same problem. I would start up the SS, let it wharm to norm idle temp then off we go, but......it would cut off before I got into 2nd gear. I would have to restart it to get it to run right. I cleared the two cels I had, 22 and 35, with new parts and then the cel would just flash continuously@! What a PITA!! I checked for those connections and sure enough, still hooked up by the guy I bought this off of! Been running this way for MONTHS! Runs much better now, thanks guys!! By the way JC, you still running the wagon in ATL? Would love to have another TLEG to run with.
