Bill Robinson's Dilemma

I am really excited about the formation of this group. Timing couldn't
be beter for me. Here is a rundown of my car:
92 sedan, mica ruby 5-speed 133k miles. KYB-AGX struts, Mitsubishi
turbo from Japanese EJ20G. Old style WRX intercooler hand-built hood
scoop that looks similar to wrx. K&N filter in stock box. Custom 3"
downpipe 3" mild steel exhaust pipe with 18" X 3" i.d. street rod
glass pak APEXi AVC-R boost controller GReddy boost limitercut
controller. Cyberdine air/fiel gauge VDO boost gauge Dunlop SP8000
205/55 15 summer tires winter tires on stock rims
Valentine One Uniden Bear Tracker. Denso Iridium plugs.
My car mades a noise that sounds like a boost leak, but I can't find
it. ECU codes repeatedly show knock sensor and atmospheric pressure
sensor. I've changed bboth and it makes no difference. It runs okay
for daily use, but something just isn't right. It will eat a stock RS,
but not by much. I took it to a reputable auto electric shop and they
toldd me that cylinder #2 is down about 40 psi and lowby is what is
causing my sensor problems. The car has never used a drop of oil and it
doesn't smoke at all. I will probably get a second opinion from a
dealer.
Assuming that the engine is tired and.the problem is rings, I can throw
in either an EJ22T or an EJ20G. I want to change my tranny at the same
time, as I found a synchro keeper on the drain plug this summer and it
gives me a snick when shifting from fourth to third.
I keep hearing about Supeerchips modified ECUs (Lee Shadbolt runs one),
but every time I have contacted Superchips, they say they will put in an
overboost cheater circuit, but that's all they do. If I drop in an
EJ20G, I want to be sure that I am meeting it with an appropriate ECU.
Well, that's what's on my mind today. Let's hear from somebody.
Bill Robinson.
