Same CD player with Aux input radio?

I have a '93 SS with factory CD player.
I recently obtained a '91(?) Factory stereo for the Aux input jack on the front.
The '93 Cd player does not seem to work with the older radio. The connectors are the same between the radios just in a bit different positions.
Has anybody else come across this problem?
