Will an n/a engine fit on a turbo crossmember?

I'll be swapping in my turbo motor today with turbo crossmember, but since I live in California, I'd like to swap the 1.8 back in with as little effort as possible when smog-day comes (also this is a legacy motor in an Impreza). The motor mounts seem to be the same...I'm wondering if the only difference is that the turbo crossmember makes more room for the up pipe. If thats the case, it should work, right? Any helpful info is appreciated!

That's too much work/too complicated.

Do a complete swap, go down to the ref station, tell them the engine is from a 1993 or 1994 Legacy Turbo (say 94 to be safe), have them do an engine replacement inspection/verification on it, get your bar sticker in your door jamb, you're now smog legal. You don't have to worry about swaping back, or random inspections and shit like that.

*edit*Sorry I shoulda specified this was an Impreza with a legacy motor *edit*
I thought engine swaps were only legal if it is from the same make & model, and the same or newer year (ie any 1993+ subaru impreza engine). If that isn't the case, then I'll have to source a Legacy Ecu and Ecu harness asap :) But until then, Swapping these engines out doesn't seem difficult at all (just as long as the crossmember doesn't need to be switched all the time). And having to pull it every 2 years will allow me to make sure everything is in spec and nothing needs to be changed out (gaskets/belts/fluids). Thanks for the suggestion, I hope that is the case!

I know it's an Impreza, but I didn't think the model the engine came from mattered, there was nothing I read in the vehicle code that specifically says you have to use an engine from one particular car.

They should be an interchange, but you'd have to check. N/A exhaust will not clear the turbo crossmember. You will need to cut the crossmember to clear on the right side or have a custom head pipe made to pass under the extended wall of the crossmember on that side.

IIRC some guy on nasioc makes uppipes and downpipes that bolt straight to an NA impreza header and you can use the NA crossmember.

what's this?

so you're saying some guy makes uppipes and downpipes for N/A subaru Impreza's that work on NA headers and will fit NA legacy crossmembers?

please clarify, because I'm looking at doing my exhaust, and I would really like to -avoid- having to build a header/uppipe and downpipe.

why avaoid building an up-pipe and down pipe ... it's pretty easy

because if I can grab a stock header from an impreza 2.5RS or something, then the uppipes and downpipes from this guy, that saves alot of welding, welding time, and opportunity to screw things up (I'm a novice at mig welding)

take a look at a impreza header, they look much easier to build a uppipe for since there is a flange right there that points outwards and there are no cats in the header. but Ive never seen an impreza header on the car. I am going to do it this way. 1 2.25" u bend and 1 3" u bend plus the flanges and some scrap would be enough for an uppipe and downpipe I bet. maybe another 3" 45 and some straight 3." this is how I am going to do it anyway. to work around the SOHC heads which is what I am pretty sure I will run. all in all, it will be less parts and maybe better flow than a turbo exhaust setup. I would rather fab it myself if it is possible and will save me some money. also a custom setup lets you run whatever turbo like a garret which seems to be much better turbos for the money. an 18g is what like $1000? T3/T4 is 300 or so. you can clock the turbo however you want too for your front mount, AWIC whatever.
search on nasioc "uppipe" in the aftermarket forced induction forum I think its subachad who was making them.

Subachad's the guy. Chad is about to get married and has been busy, so he doesn't have any ready made these days. But he will BTO. His website might be down. He was having a hard time covering the hosting of it...
