Well This weekend has been a 50/50 weekend for me...
See PA is GRRREAT for back roads and logging trails...And about 20 min from
my house and i have a great course I've planned out and run several times..
it's comprized of aspault, hard gravel, and dirt.. and its roughly about 6-7
miles long plenty of turns and cliffside bends, down hill bends, and single
lane roads winding thru PA mountains.. it helps me and my Co-pilot/Navigator
Practice for when the project car is ready...
Well we're haveing a blast.. makeing all our segment time or breaking our
old runs..
pulling 50-80 MPH at any given time.. useing everything the car gots.. hand
brakeing on 90 degree turns... really running my station wagon to it's
limits...
We had a blast.. my Co-pilot got better at distanceing my turns for me.. and
giveing me a count down for the turns.. no " TURN HERE!!!" anymore..
Heres the bad news.... as I rolled to the finish and we got out to calm our
nerves at let ourselves calm down...I smelled something awfull at first i was
really worryed it was the tranny burning.. but upon closer inspection.... I
noticed my brakes GLOWING RED thru the gold alloy rims.. infact i had slaged
my front right disc and locked that wheel.. and warped ALL the rest so after
2 hours of trying to remove the right rim from the car, we finally got it off
and proceeded to remove the right brake caliper complely and tieing off the
brake line. the pads firmly welded to the disc..
We put the tire back on and after it cooled and woobled home.. at about
45MPH the shakeing became unbearable at higher speeds.. so i got it home and
removed all four tires/ and discs.. so right now my car is on bricks awaiting
new rotors to come in.. I didn't go to the dealership they were chargeing 50
bucks more than the NAPA was for the same genuine subaru part...
Well I will post pictures as soon as i get them developed and scanned in.
plans for my next set of disks are to cross drill them with my drill press..
hopefully i will not have the warping problem again..
