Correct Raidiator cap?

Well. the weather has warmed up and my overheating problems have returned.
Today my engine temp hit redline. Noted the upper raidiator hose was bulging.
Pulled a towel out of the trunk and pulled the raidiator cap. lots of Hissing and medium hot water(not scalding).
Engine temp dropped immediatly.
added some water and drop the rest of the way home with the raidiator cap one click on without further incident.
Looking at the cap it has 2 marks. one says 13 pounds preassure. the other a "S".
Got to thinking maybe the cap had to much preassure and was preventing hot gasses from escaping the cooling systen\m
Does this sound like the approptiate cap for my car?
