i hate these stupid A/C vents, every used car i have owned has them, they are good for nothing, the parts are all there but they have come loose or broken away from the other pieces so there is no directional control with the air, and they move so easy sometimes they fold down when i have the air on high so othey close them self off
is it easy to get them out and get new ones out of a junk car?
i wouldnt have to take them out of the dash would i?
i can get pictures if you need them

I just went through that whole ordeal. Fortunately for me I got some vents in good condition from a another member on the board.
Which vents are you talking about? Mine was the ones on the passenger side. And yes, you'd have to take 'em out of the dash.

No you don't need to take the dash out, actually it only takes about 10 seconds to take 'em out

One of the reasons why we love our Subarus so much, "simplicity".
All you need is a small flat head screw driver and/or a small pocket knife. Insert the tool at the
bottom center of the air vent between the vent lip and the dash molding. Lift up gently on the tool, pull gently from the bottom, straight out. That's it.
There are two small metal tabs on either bottom ends of the vent. By lifting straight up, you're essentially disengaging the locking tabs from the dash.
After the vent assembly is out, you could further disassembly it by taking the facial plate off. Just press on the two small plastic clips with a small object and pull apart. Then the louvers are exposed and you could improvise something to make them tight again.
Good luck.
