Hi all new here and sayin hi

I just bought a 92 liberty lx 2.2l FWD manual, only paid $300 :-D .
now it was so cheep because it has 300000km's and needs a new motor because some bonehead cant line up the key way on the crank pully.
now me being what could be called young and stupid i want to replace it with an EJ20t and fit the AWD gearbox and rear driveline.

What do you think?

For the AWD swap, you might want to look at Josh's sticky in the driveline thread

It'll be a LOT of work, and will most likely cost you a lot more than just buying a liberty gt

Unless the body and interior is mint, you might want to heavily consider your options

And welcome to the forums!

Yeah it has and wats the "usdm" one?

Thanks y is it going to be so much work? everything should just bolt up wont it? i figer ill have to replace the fuel tank and entire rear crossmember etc. i have converted a holden commodore to a manual and a magna wagon to a 3.5l and manual were told on both ocasions it couldnt be done but we did and it wasnt that hard why would this be any different? (please dont take that the wrong way)

PS im a mechanic at a soob dealer and have acess to several vehicle hoists and workshop manuals along with the subaru scan tools not that they help on the early soobs

Also im plannin on usin the late model ej20t quad cam wit vvt out of say a wrx also with an aftermarket ecu and a fmic

It should be easy, then, to convert to AWD.

I think the reason that was said is that you do have to replace quite a few things to get it to work right.

Off the top of my head:
Subframe
Fuel Tank
Lateral links (I think)
Knuckles/hubs
Rear struts/springs

If you can get all that from a donor car easily, it should be good.

The biggest problem I see is this:
Wiring.

You'll have to replace a huge chunk of the wiring harness in order to run the turbo ECU

Not really.

Remember....my car was originally FWD, AT, & N/A. It's now AWD, MT, & Turbo.....

The turbo conversion only required swapping two pins for the cam & crank sensors, and adding leads for the turbo specific sensors.

That would be true if he was going with an early swap. But it sounds like he wants to do a v7 or newer Ej205 or Ej207 swap in there. Note he said with VVT (aka AVCS). That's a completely different level of wiring than putting an Ej20G or EJ22T into it. It's basically just like doing a swap on any GC impreza.

The easiest approach is to get the complete wreck and pull the wiring harness into the car complete. This will require/allow you to replace the old dash with the modern one at the same time. This sounds like a fun project, and it will be one helluva sleeper once it's all said and done...
