You can use a desktop PC if you can find one.

If your ECU's part number is 22611AA693, I believe the ROM ID is
72 36 21. If it's 2611AA694, then I think it ought to be 72 36 22.

Those two ROM IDs should be the same from a scan tool's point of view.

this is in the .ini file that comes with the vwsuabru scan tool that was posted

Those addresses were copied from my scan tool's code, so, yes, they work if you use the correct transfer functions.

still pretty much a noob when it comes to stuff like this. what do you mean if i use the correct transfer functions?

The person making the scan tool needs to make the scan tool understand the data at those addresses. Your ECU doesn't keep all the info in the same form as most other Subaru turbo ECUs.

i sent him a pm saying

"i have been talking to the guys on legacycentral and they have told me my rom id would be 72 36 21 or 72 36 22
do you need to know exactly which one it is?"

and he sent one back saying

"I just tested those rom IDs on my techtom and neither of them work. I even double checked them to make sure..

Let me know if you find any other rom ids that you want me to try out."

does this go in hand with what you are saying about how our ecu is different?

Yes.

how different is the ecu?
should i give up on getting on of these things?
do you want to make one and sell it to me? :)
should some one chime in and tell me to do a search?

I'd put my money towards an Autronic ECU.

Or just buy a cheap laptop and make do with my scantool.

yes, that is one way to go.

but then i would have to make one of those cables which should not be to hard, but looking at thoe skimatics (sp) i get pretty lost. then i would have to buy a lap top and carry it around with me.

but if i was able to get one of those scantools working i would only have to plug it in, and mount it in my car.

so is there no way that his scantool could work in my car? and if it can do you mind helping me find out how?

Schematics? It's three wires.

Buy a small laptop like a Toshiba Libretto 50CT. It's small enough that you can make a mount for it to go in place of the cupholder.

His scantool could work in your car if he rewrites the stuff that's different. It's all up to him.

see what i mean about getting lost? lol
i just took a look at it again
when i get a cable made i should be able to bring my computer into my garage to test this right?

Yes, if your computer is a PC and has a parallel port.
