Rear door locks

Well, today I finally tackled the Hobie Gary Door Lock Mod. Had to run down to Lowe's to get some 18G wire and that was all I needed...aside from tools. Took me about 45 minutes to do the first one and 20 minutes to do the second one.

I used the wire to tie up the L shaped spring end (which is inside the big plastic piece of the lock - Gary had me confused on his one) then I tied the wire around two notches for attaching the lock to the door. Like Gary said to, I made some "adjustments" to the door by prying on the holes a bit, then I had to use a little "persuasion" on the locks to get them in with the wire tied around their catches. I also broke a tab on the plastic cover to the lock...glued it but I don't think it's going anywhere anyways.

Now though, I don't have to tell people why my locks are retarded, because they aren't any more!

If anyone needs assistance on how to do the mod, ask me or see this link: http://www.geocities.com/hobiegary/locks.html

Unfortunately, no. I didn't have access to my camera.

You can't really get pics of the busted lock part anyway, it's inside the lock toggle assembly.

Read that link carefully and take your time, it's not too hard to figure out. I used that guide and I've done 3 of my doors.

A small mirror can be helpful, and remember to test the handle and adjust the wire tension.

I used that guide and successfully did two of my doors. I actually used bits of a cut up wire hanger, though, so my driver's door lock sticks out a bit from the door panel.....

Wow, I've never heard of this problem before. How common is this?

I think it's fairly common. Even Josh did it to his car.

You don't need to buy anything....just use a paper clip. That's what I used.

I need to do the rear doors as well.
