Possible boost leak? Or normal?

Ok so the problem goes like this. I get on it, like an on ramp or from a start and if i'm at any more than half throttle i hear this weard consistent sss-sss-sss-sss sound around 3500rpm on and the car seems to hesitate a little. Almost sounds like a weard boost leak. I jurry riged a gheto boost gauge from the charcole canister line to the boost line that runs to all those boost controle solinoides and dohickys on the Left fender, made a run up a steep hill and it said i was boosting to almost 9.5-10psi peek around 5k rpm, still made the weard noise, have replaced all the vacuum lines on the charge side of the turbo and all the boost control solinoid lines with the exception of the recirc valve. Is this normal or dose is sound weard to you guys? The car is stock right now no mods at all.

well dude lol thats the sound of HP durr lol. umm idk i get that too but i alwase thought that it was my turbo.

no this isnt the constant spooling sound of the turbo, its more like theres a solinoid opening and closing realy fast venting boost to the atmosphere.

The OEM intake has a resonator designed to reduce induction noise, which beyond the hissing sound includes a lot of weird harmonics from changes in rotational speed of the turbo.

Removing the snorkus slightly increases the noise and getting rid of the resonator lets out the whole spectrum of sound.

Is this your problem?

sounds quite possible, I did do a sorta snorkis the other day, took out the bottle and the..uh.. up pipe i guess lol. just have the pipe from the air box going down. But the car still feals like its hesitating.

if its a whistling sound*my car does this* your wastegate spring is bad and u need a new turbo or weld your wastgate closed and buy an external setup.kinda sounds like a opening and closing hella fast whistle?

That is possible as well but I would think that would show up on my boost gauge test. The boost levels never fluctuated and the needle was steady. Plus if this is the case i hardly think that i need to go as far as getting a new turbo, I can just get a new actuator.

Is this your full time boost gauge or did you do this to trouble shoot? If this is the full time setup then, get a real bosst gauge.

Also, do you use an Ipod with an FM transmitter? If so I have noticed that as different electrical devices are used as I am listening to music theres a high pitched whine that comes out of the speakers. It gets worse or better depending on what stress is put on the engine and how much power is being produced. Its loud enough to make my friend's stock 94 accord sound like it's running a garrett setup.

this sounds much like the issue i have also. Kinda of a chugging sound when you put a high load on the motor just as your building boost? Ive been able to make it go away but it always comes back and i havent been able to track down what the heck it is. It has done it on both my VF11 and TD04. I swapped actuators on the TD04 and it went away for about a day but came right back so i dont know if i should blame the turbo or something with my valve train. If you figure it out let me know haha

This is usually caused by poor grounding on aftermarket amps/decks hastily installed. Also known as engine noise

I think I have figured it out, and I think it was a normal sound. Heres my theory. I've been running with thermostat that was stuck open ever sence i bought the car, well I just replaced it a few weeks ago and the sound has all but dissapeared. What i think was happening is that because my t-stat was open my car would never warm up, which also explains my constantly low coolant temps and no heat from my vents, because the engine never warmed up I think the PCM wasn't giving me full boost and i was hearing the wastgate/bypass valve solenoid clicking like mad to limit my boost, and my stumble was because the engine was again cold and had a slight missfire therefore the PCM was pulling some timing. This still dosent really explain why I was reading a full 10psi on the boost gauge but the car pulls great now and I dont have a stumble so WTF on that.

Not to be a smart ass or anything but this is actually known as RFI (radio frequency interfearence) This can be caused by worn plug wires, to many wires run together through the car or as you said crappy sterio system installs. I know one guy who got rid of this symptom compleatly just buy running his amp wire from the battery down the passengers side of the car instead of the drivers side!

not to be a smart ass but... it has nothing to do with which side of the car you run the power wire, it has to due with NOT running your signal wires (RCA's) for the amp anywhere near the power cable. the power (high voltage) cable creates whats called Eddie currents around it while power flows through it and RCA's are susseptable to pick of any noise due to the lack of shielding. Unless of course you have a set of monster shielded time matched rca's like I do but at $200 for a 5meter cable I doubt it ;)

Thanks for restating what i just said with a lot more words lol. he lost his RFI because he was running his power cable with his RCA's and his speaker wires before he moved the power cable, i just thought that wasn't really the point, and yea eddie currents are a form of RFI. Anything with electrical current running through it has the potential to create eddie currents, it just depends on how well it's shielded or how much resistance there is in the conductor, thats why spark plug wires have such massive resistance, otherwise they would have very large eddie currents.
