Hi all, I would like to search a full set of exhaust from down pipe
to the muffler!!
I don't want it loud just little louder then the stock is fine!What
size is the best? 2.5" or 3"????
If goes to custom make what metaril is best? S-steel or Alumimun?
What should be the price around a whole set?

about the only headers ive seen are from borla and are 420$, from
there youll have to get an exhaust made, a should should do it for
around 100$ if you bring in your old complete exhaust they can copy
it..what are you planning on doing with the car? for street driving
you dont want bigger than 2 1/4 inch..If you went to 3 inch you will
loose alot of power under 2500-3000 rpm, and mileage , that would
kinda of defete the reason for getting pipe that big..

Bob, Ben has a turbo, so in that case 3" would be ideal, but more expensive,
a bit louder, and not all exhaust shops work with 3" tubing. 2.5" is
usually adaquet for quite a bit more horsepower, but if you can get a 3"
system, I would. Actually, when I went to a full 3" system with only a
muffler, absolutely everything improved: off-boost performance, on-boost
performance, spool-up time for the turbo, throttle response, gas mileage,
just everything. But then again, I just put a full 2.5" system from the
turbo back on my Galant VR4, and the performance gains were staggering to
say the least. Either way, if you get a full free-flow exhaust on any turbo
car, you are going to notice a huge difference.

Hey Ben,

Bill Robinson (AKA: VultureBoy) has a turbo flange that will allow you to
'ovalize' a 3" pipe to the back of your turbo housing allowing a unobtrusive
path from the wastegate, probably as good as it gets with a single pipe
setup. With turbo (you do have a turbo don't you! 3" is the way to go,
the only negative effects will be a increase in noise. As for pipe material
selection the debate rages on, stainless is more expensive and the welds are
still prone to rust, aluminized steal is MUCH cheaper and easier to work
with and should last a good number of years. As for mufflers I have a 3"
DynoMax race oval muffler along with a DynoMax 3" cat. Don't know how it
sounds because I have yet to get it installed A local shop gave me an
estimate of $250 to do the work, from turbo back using the following parts
supplied by me: two 3" -90 degree mandrel bends (for the downpipe) 3"cat and
3" muffler (all aluminized). He is to supply the rest of the 3" aluminized
pipe, hangers and labor. His price seems a little high but there is room
for negotiation

Isn't that means the 3" dim. is the only to go???
I know my car has 2 cats. if I goes with the new exhaust should I
remain all 2 cats or just have only 1 cat. for the system?
If use only 1 cat. will the car could pass the emission test also,
which Cat. should I reamin? the one after the downpipe or the one at
the middle of the system?
Is the 3" system really lound???? Some of my 2.5RS friends has a N1
exhaust at the back and get cought by cops and said the exhaust is
too lound and give them a ticket!!!!
If I goes to the 3" system, which muffler could turn the noice down?

Ben, You will not gain nearly as much if you use the original cat as
it is only 2.25 (I think) and would cause a restriction. The closer
you put the cat to the motor the better as far as reducing
emmisions. I will probably put my single 3" cat in approximatly the
same location as the original "2nd" unit. It may not be as effective
as the original 'pair' and I do not know if it will pass your
emmision test, you are on your own there

You cannot compare the exhaust note of a NA car to a turbocharged
car, with the turbocharger spinning in the exhaust stream it
effectually cancels out the individual exhaust beats and creates a
completly differant tone AND volume. In fact your turbo car with
just a high-flow cat may very likely be quieter than your buddies NA
2.5RS with the N1 exhaust fitted!

There are sooooooooooooo many muffler choices available, but it does
narrow down some when you are looking for a 3 incher. I decided on
the DynoMax Race Oval for several reasons. I have no interest in
paying outragous prices for mufflers, for $59.95 (from
www.summitracing.com) you get a fully welded aluminized extremely
free-flowing muffler. If, when I install mine it is too loud I will
simply add another DynoMax muffler, either a round or bullet style to
the system (these are less than $40.00!!!).

That's the ONLY muffler I have on my Galant, sounds fantastic

Anyways, I'm sure Pete is correct in saying the best place to put the car
for emmissions is as close to the engine is possible, personally I think
that's probably the worst place to put it on the turbo Legacy simply because
that's the last place you need heat build-up. I'd put it where Pete is
putting his, in the second cat's position in the center pipe. Just an
opinion though.
