Hi,

Just an ask. Is the cigarrete plug 12 volt or 13,8 volt?

I want to conect my laptop to the cigarrete plug and I bought an adapter. In the intruction it recommends to unplug during starting the engine. In not sure if its so important.

Thanks for your help

yea its 12 but i wants you to unplug it during starting the car because the voltage in will raise to about 14 volts

it'll actually fall to about 10 volts, IIRC.

I've fried inverters by leaving the laptop running on them and then cranking the car, lower voltage = more amperage pullage = more smokage.

I've fried lighters from running inverters on them

Ok,

So the voltage is 12 Volt with the car stoped, it falls 10 Volts during start, and it stays about 14 Volts with the car running.

Is that wright?

so, I can not plug 12 V electronic devices not made to be pluged to the car?? Others devices like laptop adapters or inverters must be unplugged ???

Hi, it's me again.

What do you recommend me to use the 12 Volt laptop adapter or the original 240volt adapter + and inverter?

thanks you

Use an inverter intended for auto use. A good one will have a auto-reset circuit that will pop if you leave it plugged in during start up. The one we have at work will shut off and give you a high-pitch alarm for a second, then you have to unplug it and wait a few seconds for it to reset before using it again. All 12V cars (almost all of them) run 14.4 VDC. If an accessory is meant for a car with a 12V system, then it's safe to use.

Thanks you,

I'll find a good inverter.
