VF8 or TD05-16g?

So I've been looking for a new turbo and have found 2 cheapish options.
One is a vf8 from australia, 156,000km's but he says it has no shaft play and only ran stock boost. He is asking $100(i am guessing AUD) plus shipping.
The other is a TD05-16g that a dumb DSM guy attempted to make work on his eclipse. It has a 90 degree elbow welded onto the outlet but could be easily cut off. He is asking $225 plus shipping.
I pretty much hella want the 16g but that vf8 is pretty damn cheap. What do you guys think!?

You'll be happy with either one to be honest. The TD05 will give you more bang I'm pretty sure of that. I've never ridden in a car with one myself, but I have the vf8 and I'm quite happy with it. Still, 225 for a turbo that has been somewhat mangled seems a bit pricey to me. *shrug*

yeaahh, I'll see what I can do about that. Apparently its a darn good turbo other than the fact that it has a 90 degree elbow welded on it.
We will see.

Don't buy an Aussie Turbo. Unless they guarantee their part. You'd be better of getting something USDM.

haha, yeah I dont know it looks a little sketchy.
I'm still looking for a reasonable TD05, seems to be the consensus that is basically "the turbo our cars should have came factory with" - vrg3.
Anywho, I am excited to see what kind of gains i get from the TD05 and a small intercooler.

well... i am by no means an expert, but i have a vf34/wrx intercooler and according to the flow charts i've seen...
at 14.7psi
ihi vf34 flows 430cfm
small 16g is 505cfm (stock)
large 16g is 550cfm (like a deadbolt)
so from a peformance stand point, i find my car pretty damn quick (13's), as it flows easily 130cfm more then the stock turbo.
without upping the injectors, and/or a tune of some sort, you should be going faster then me by at least a little.
now, 2 quick questions:
1. when you say small intercooler you mean stock wrx tmic or do you mean something like a smaller saab intercooler?
2. why would the 90 deg elbow be a problem? your stock turbo has one.

I am running a VF8 and love it to death, and it honestly is not that much smaller than a TD05...
And 156,000km is less than 100,000 miles...and IHI Turbos are FAR better quality than Mitsubishi turbos...which is what the TD05 is...

Yeah but ou can pretty much never find a vf8 or vf12 in the states.
That doesnt surprise me that Mitsubishi doesnt make good turbos either.
I've ruled out both of the particular turbos I mentioned earlier, they were sketchy. But I am still gonna go for a TD05, or maybe a IHI if I can find a decent VF8 or VF12 or something... I am not to worried about how much the turbo I get it is going to flow. I mean, as long as it is around what a TD05 can put out I will be happy and it will take me as far as I wanna go with that car.
