i was looking at a connecter tonight im sure its the connecter to the cam angle senser and i noticed that there were three wires comming out one was black one was white and the other was yellow. the yellow wire was all fucked up it looked like it had been cut and rewired with a bare wire that traces in to the harness. so is it supposed to be bare or insulated.

The yellow wire is the shielding wire. As long as it's hooked up, it's probably alright.

ok i geuss so but i have another question. why do they intergrate the yellow wire in to the coating and then re connect it with the ecu at the end? is that a subaru thing or what. also what does sb meen its if you fallow the cam angle connecter to where it meents up with the ecu it has an sb on top of it what does that meen?

The shield wire protects the ECU from picking up stray (incorrect) signals. Most incorrect signals would come from things like the spark plug wires or a coil (anything hi eneregy).

I would tend to agree with Legacy777. As long as its making contact its probably alright.

As far as the SB it looks like it takes the place of a wire color code (all the other wires have the color codes listed). Here is a refernece for a few:

I would imagine that SB stands for something like Shield Barrier. All the other shield wires have the same indication, as far as I can see.

Its not an uncommon practice to use a shield wire. Any electronic device that uses voltage sensation rather than mA sensation is prone to interference. This is just a way to kind of "filter" out inproper signals and avoid problems.
