There is a local guy who is parting out his 200 Wrx Turbo and is selling his engine for 1500. I am curious if it is too much work, or not worth the upgrade to do a swap with my 92 Legacy Turbo Coupe

Your engine has far more potential.

Yes, I agree, the EJ205 is not a really spectacular motor, especially compared to the EJ22T!

But for 1500, you could buy it and possibly sell it for more if you have everything ( as in wiring harness, fuel controller, etc)
But as for the swap- I am pretty sure my 93 SS with the TD05 and 3 inch exhaust running wastegate boost would do pretty good against a WRX

My 92 SS with 4.11 gears, a VF8, no cats and an AWIC whoops WRXs like nothing...

See- goes to show you have lots of options with the stock engine to be able to beat WRX's

I was always curious is Wrx's were more show than go. But personally i prefer the body stying of my 92 Legacy. But thats just me.

I agree to that...the 1st Gen Legacy is just such a clean style...nothing quirky about it

I understand that it may take a little work to get as much power as the hyped up STI, but i believe that the car is ony worth the work you put into it, not what was done to it when you bought it

I would call them about even actually
The EJ205 has far better heads, and the updated Phase II design. The EJ22T has mainly the closed-deck block going for it.
You can just stick with your EJ22T and still have a fast car. But you'll struggle putting your heavily-modded Legacy against a heavily-modded EJ205 WRX.
And a Legacy coupe?

I don't know that I agree with this, but I guess it comes down to definitions of "heavily modified". In my book, a heavily modified 1st gen Legacy has some sort of Ej20 or Ej25 heads, a much bigger turbo, and the EM to back it up (like an Autronic, for example). With all of that backed by the Ej22T block, I don't see many Ej205 based WRX's that can compete. Now, if you allow the WRX to do a block swap and run up to an Ej257 block it's a different game. But Ej22T based builds versus Ej205 based builds? The Ej22T will win...

i drove my 91 ss for at least 3 solid years moded and with no problems, untill the tranny went south. now i want to put my ej22 block in my 05 wrx. has anyone heard of this swap? i love the torquiness of the 22 and the 2.0 flows well all the way to red line with a vf39. i think this would make an awsome hybrid, any info is apreciated.
