I'm using a Quaker State blend at the moment.

Nothing noticeable, just feel a bit better about it.

ive read youll gain 1%...I used it a few times and didnt see
anything..If I got 220k so far with no problems with the cheap stuff
that will be ok..One thing, it is better in cold weather, stays
thinner..And it is better on your engine, just costs more..

I use Castrol GTX or Pennzoil 10W-30 in my 92 Legacy L. I have heard
that synthetic is prone to finding leaks, especially in older
engines, and I leak a few drips here and there as it is now.

One of my friends/co-workers has a 91 Passat that he was using
synthetic in and his lifters were tapping horribly. He changed back
to 10W-30 regular and the tapping went away. Just an observation,
but I have not been convinced yet to switch to synthetic.

I use Synthetic in my Turbo Legacy(Mobil 1). I 've used it for the last
30,000 miles and the car now has around 124,000 with no leaks as of right
now. My own personal belief of Synthetics causing leaks is that if their is
a leak somewhere, it's because the seal or gasket is bad, not because of
synthetic. Syntetic may possibly find it quicker, but it is not going to
cause a good seal to go bad.

In any case, if you have a turbo, you are doing your motor a big favor by
using synthetic. It is absolutely worth every penny IMHO.

I have used Motul 300V ever since 5000km in my 97 GTB, which is 100%
ester based (completely different from most synthetics) but is very
expensive at about USD45 for 4 litres.

I started using it as friend of a friend had tried all the other
major synthetics in a 10 second drag bike, and found that 300V was
the only product that would prevent the cams going blue at the end of
each run.

I use it mainly due to the "extreme" temperatures that a turbo engine
will typically endure with "spirited" driving. The temperature at the
turbo bearings can be severe, and I don't want any burning of the oil
or carbon deposits in this area.

I am currently doing head gaskets and other "stuff" on the engine,
and can testify to the good job that 300V does... 90,000km on the
engine and not a spot of varnish anywhere, factory hone marks still
in all regions of the bore.... beautiful!

I typically do an oil change about 7,000 to 10,000 kms, but am told
that I could easily go 2 to 10 times that with 300V!

I know this sounds excessive, but I do about 50,000 kms a year...
most of it "spirited", and i reckon what I spend on oil is saved on
engine rebuilds.

Can't say that there is any performance gains... other than it
smelling beautiful! ...sort of sugary-sweet.
