Autronic wont start

Im gonna have to talk to the place I got it from, but hopefully someone here might have an answer for me.

I got what I believed to be a 94-96 WRX Autronic plugin board, which uses all the same pinouts as the 92-94 Legacy Turbo, with the exception of the extra 2 ignition outputs (coil on plug on the WRX). This is destined to go on the Rallycar eventually.

Well, I thought Id play with it a bit today and see what its capable of, so I unhooked my stock ECU from my new black Legacy, and plugged in the autronic. Hooked up the laptop, turned everything on, and so far so good. The tuning software sees the ECU, and starts exchanging information.

Before I try cranking, I look around in the various options to see if theres any way I can set the ECU to work on a wasted spark 2 coil system like in the Legacy. Oddly I find that its already setup to run on a wasted spark system. I look further and it seems this unit was actually designed for a 98 STI (apparently they werent OBD2, still the same connector as the Legacy). I dont know if the 98 STI was wasted spark or not, but this unit was setup for it when I got it... Anyone know?

Anyway, I try to crank it, and it cranks, but doesnt catch. I dont have an air intake charge sensor hooked up, but I get the software to tell it the air coming in is at about 8 degrees celcius (the current ambient temp is 4 C)... Nada.

Everything seems to be set up properly, its supposed to run out of the box. I dont get why it doesnt

The TPS on the legacy SS reads "backwards" so to speak and if you have clear flood set up that can keep it from injecting any fuel. I'm not sure if that box is set up to read falling voltage or rising because I can't remember which way the 90's JDM STis go.

Just one thing out of many to check.

A 98 STi uses a totally different plug assembly and is wasted spark. It shouldn't be compatible with the early plugs.

Innovative,
Would that matter if he was using the JDM TPS?

That's a good question but unfortunately I can't remember. I do remember the fuel pump had to be wired for switched ground instead of switched power on JDM STi swaps around that year.

Is the fuel pump priming?

Ill have to take a listen...

Stock fuel pump = stupidly quiet.

The info stored on the ECUs rom identifies it as a 98 STI

That may just mean the fuel and timing maps were created for a 98sti not that the box is intended for that use.

You should be able to load anyones fuel and timing maps from any car that is running an Autronic(not that they will work, or work well for your car)

See if it will allow you to lock timing at say 10* then check for spark and fuel.

Further thought reminds me that although the ECU's use the same plug I believe the pin outs are slightly different.
