Engine management options.....

Hey guys,
I am going to need engine management soon. I know some people are running Perfect Power 6. What else is out there. Can our cars be reflashed?
Thanks,

I haven't done much research, but if the Greddy Emanage Ultimate works....it looks like a decent option.
In addition, I've been emailing with the developer at ecutune (check out this thread for more info)
http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=30137
I believe he's going to be working on a similar ECU add-on like what he has for the SVX. In terms of hardware, I've recommended the STi 550cc/min yellow top injectors with the larger flow Z32 nissan MAF he offers for the SVX. That would be a "stage 2" setup. I requested raising the boost limit & fuel cut, but I'm not sure if that's something he can do in his chip.
Either way, if the chip only modifies the MAF table to utilize the larger injectors & MAF....that would be awesome, and a simple FCD & boost controller should allow you to put down some more power without the sensors being out of range.
If I get any updates I'll let ya know.

I am really wanting more info on Engine Management for our Legacys also. I really don't care about anything complicated. I would just like to be able to use larger injectors and raise boost accordingly with a manual boost controller.

I havent done it yet, but I have 2 options sitting on the floor in front of me. I had been planning on using the stock ecu with an msd dis2 to retard the ignition, and a safcII to control fuel. After I had bought both of these, I came upon a link ecu for $100 which I think Im going to use with the dis2.
There are a lot of options - it just depends on how much tuning you want to do. A link ecu is a full standalone which requires you to "set" values for everything the regular ecu had controlled. Emanage is a piggyback - lets you change values a certain percentage for a selected group of ecu functions.
You can probably also get away with a 5th injector and controller if you just want to raise boost...
- Just run add fuel when you go into boost...

Yah, raising boost is pretty much all I want to do...sounds a bit complicated though. Maybe H20 injection is the way for me to go...

With custom tuning on my meth kit I was able to run 22 psi on a vf39 without touching the stock fuel system or ECU. It was faster than a stock STi (straight line) as it was.
I just put a larger turbo on a few days ago which sucked my turbo inlet hose shut at 22 psi to give you an idea of the airflow I'm running. Other than that the car ran really strong just by tuning fuel with the meth kit.
Of course if you want the best possible performance and control you should go with a good standalone, but for my daily beater I was happy with this setup.

I am almost done with my Perfect Power install, and I plan to be running 440 injectors and around 20 psi, so I will let you all know how that goes
gto7419- Where did you find a Link for $100?!?!

I found it on rs25.com - It had been for sale for about a month there and no one had bitten at $100 + shipping, so I offered him $100 shipped and he took it

He was just trying to get rid of it...
Im finding out, I can get parts MUCH cheaper if Im patient. It helps that I have a large amount of downtime at work to search through the classifieds at multiple forums...

very cool. My car has a 16g, WRX IC, walbro, and an FCD already. 12-14 PSI seems to be the limit of this combo. This is my DD, so I also don't care for it to be anything fancy. I prolly won't run more than 15-16 PSI anyway. What's a basic water injection kit cost?

A basic on/off type kit is a couple hundred bucks and a progressive one is in the $400 range.
I upgraded to an FP green and ran 22 psi with my meth setup still on the stock fuel system and ECU this week. Before the turbo sucked so hard it crushed the intake it ran great. I'm down around 17 psi until I figure something else out for the intake.

I have this exact same setup minus the FCD. I cannot for the life of me get it to run without hesitating above 9-10 PSI. Ran the VGR3 scantool and sure enough MAF is 4.9-5.1v.
I have a set of 550 sti injectors i want to put in but need to get past this MAF issue. Thinking of saving up for a link plus but im also looking at a MAP-ECU2 though ive heard mixed things about this. Issues of getting a base tune without much dyno time and its learn function is based off the stock MAF which does me no good once it his the 5V rail. Anyone have any experience with these?

The great thing about the link is that it uses the the map sensor and basically deletes the maf. The PROBLEM with the link, from what I have been reading, is that it really needs to be dyno tuned...

Hmm, I'll have to think about that. This is my DD though, so we will see.

Right. Sounds like any option from here on out if i want it to run well with my tunning inexperience im going to have to invest in dyno time. Its just a question of which option will allow me the least amount of dyno time to performance.

From what I understand, there arent a ton of options. If you want to get a proper tune, you NEED dyno time.... How much dyno time will also depend on the tuner and the ecu. I dont really know more than that....
