Oil Leaking From Front of Engine. Crank Seal?

So, there is oil leaking out of the front of my engine, looks like from under the timing belt cover. I'm guessing that it is the crank seal leaking a bit. How hard is the front seal to replace? Can I do it without pulling the engine?

The crank seal on the front of the engine is in the oil pump if Im not mistaken...

You have to take off the timing cover and crank pulley... The seal is then in the oil pump (which you dont have to remove...) The seal is a royal pain to get out, but its doable.... Just be careful not to gouge the edge where the seal is made...

uh, yeah. Don't forget that you also need to take off and redo the timing belt. You can't just take off the pulley and cover...

here are some pics from when i did mine. I just did this last night on my buddies 98 OBS too. Personally if your in there anyways, pull the oil pump, get a new high-pressure o-ring, and reseal it. Install the pump and then the front main, much easier this way. I used my old seal backed face to face with the new one and then used the timing sprocket and crank pulled to seat the new seal.
