Ok, I have an ej22 block with ej25 heads.... I did the timing belt yesterday and I lined up the cam gears to the single notch markings.

Theres an arrow and double notch mark on the cam gears also. I believe Im supposed to ignore those???

The crank gear I couldnt find a notch on so I assumed I had to use the arrow :?

Anyone confirm this?

Looking at this picture, I cant see a notch or arrow on the gear..

(I've been digging and there really is no SOLID info out there....)

The service manual on the same site shows you where to look for the crank mark.W2A2, Book 2 section 3 page 21, adobe page 49. The double marks onthe cam gears should line up, or be close, the arrows are for discerning which piston is at TDC.

The crank sprocket should have a notch on one of the back side on one of the crank position sensor teeth. This will put the crank keyway facing down and that arrow is 90* to the drivers side. this picture kinda sucks but this motors timing was off by a tooth. you can see on the opposite side of the keyway the tooth in the back, that has a small notch, and you can see the arrow 90* to the drivers side. That notch needs to be at 12-o-clock and lined up with the notch on the outside boss for the sensor.

As for the heads im not sure about DOHC so double check, but they prolly should be on the notches also.

The crank gear notch lines up to the notch on oil pump. The keyway will be towards the ground. You will see the notch if the crank is turned @200 degrees clockwise from your picture. Line up the single cam gear marks with single notches on timing covers, two on top the lower are on the sides. The cam gear double marks should be really close if you did it correct. Do the pass side cam gears first then driver side intake gear then the ds exhaust gear. Install the toothed idler and release the tensioner. I think I used the Subaru End Wrench articles my first time. Just a suggestion I hope its running by now.
