Bad lifter noise

So I have done a few searches and didn’t get anything too close to my problem.
i replaced my head gaskets and all other seals in a set of EJ22T heads i got that had been port and polished. I didn’t soak the rocker arm assembly in oil pre-install. Everything is together and i used 10w30 royal purple full synthetic oil. The lifters are making terrible noise even after letting it run for a while. I tried the old ATF trick to help clean up the lifters. What are my options from hear? re-install with a soak? Use a flush?

this is pretty common. i know they might sound bad, but if you drive around for a while they will probably fill up. doug and I have both had this same thing. it took 20 miles of driving before the were all right. do some searching there are posts about this.

My engine used to eat a LOT of oil and if it ever got low, it would do this as well.

well i had done a little research but this problem had always developed over time for others. for me it happened after a rebuild so i thought maybe i installed them wrong.
we have five subies just at my house not counting brothers and sisters so I’m not new to the usage of oil and tapping from the heads.

It took me 20 miles of driving before the noise went away once.

Just take the lifters out and bleed them. It shouldn't take you more then 2 hours to do everything.

Yea that seems to be the way i am heading .
I got three sets of legacy ss head at my house so i was wondering if i could bleed the lifters out of one of the other heads and do the pull a Houdini and swap them? This will save me time that my car is apart.

Quicker to drive the car for 20 miles than bleed them for three hours......

yea but the fast way always ends up biting me in the ass. there is a reason the rocker arm assembly needs oil and i think it should be that way and not the quik fix for now. I like to do things the right way if i can help .

They are not supposed to compress by hand unless you release the check ball. If they do compress without putting something in to release the check ball, then those ones need to be replaced.
You can take a 10 mm socket which fits nicely over the lifter, pour oil into the top, and take a paper clip to release the check ball. Press the lifter up and down to bleed the old oil and air out of it. When you're done, release the check ball, and the lifter should be firm and not compress. If it does compress, it needs to be replaced.

douglas vincent < ichecked your other post and from what i read you know what your talking about but i'm going to have to check them cause i think i got some bad HLV in these heads.
i swapped the rocker arm assy off my stock heads and put those on the drivers side. it got a little quiter but didn't stop, and all of lash adjusters were stiff on that assembly so i am guessing i need a tad more oil for those and i will replace the other side tonight.

I'd pull off the rocker arm assembly and replace the ones that aren't filled with oil if you have spares. That is if driving a ways doesnt quiet them down.
