so yeah, my legacy's paint has seen better days. rust, sap, the usual fun stuff. I've been thinking of painting my car something... interesting but not police magnet material (this is my blunt wagon ;-) ). i was thinking white with big black ?'s (like ~2') scattered over it at different angles? and a gloss finish is a must.

anyway enough about my bad ideas... do you guys know of any very cheap (like 80$) ways to reach my goal? i hear good things about rustoleum in vehicle applications from a few people, and being able to use a roller to apply it, then sand it, then buff to a fairly durable gloss seems very very awesome considering my working area (top of a driveway...) and i know I'd f'up any attempt at a clearcoat. you guys know any other cost effective ways of doing this?

btw: my sorry paint job with areas of.. ugly pointed out. yeah that front 1/4 panel piece is riveted in... damn previous owners and your ghettorigging.

I think the easiest way of painting/fixin' up the wagon is to get rid of the rust. Sand blast it, remove it, whatever. Prime those areas, then maybe go to a paint shop and see if they can hook you up with some left over single stage paint. I would not recommend appling it with a roller, however, it would take eons to sand down and buff to any marginal shine/smoothness. I dont know about $80, but I would say probably $150 would make up an "OK" DIY paint job, which it seems you are after.

yeah i was gonna use the sand/grind thing on my dremel to grind all the rusted spots down, and maybe grind the heads on the rivets a little smoother and maybe some bondo or something to lessen the gap between the new panel and the old stuff a little more. i dont have a spray gun though... so i need a rattlecan method if not for the rustoleum
