Hey how u guys doin. I am currently in dealing with this guy in New
Jersey who is selling a 93 subaru legacy turbo touring wagon with 96k
miles on it and askin 6000 for it. Whut do you guys think. Im new to
the sooby world so i wanted to know your opinions. Also if you guys
know of any low cost mods i can do to it. Any answers will be very
very greatly appreciated. Thanx

If the miles are the only problem, then that's a fantastic price! 1st thing
to do would be to check the tyres, get better ones depending on the
condition that they're in. Some quick mods to do to it would be boost gauge,
to tell you what you're at; exhaust and intake because that'll let the turbo
breath better; and a boost controller. Maybe an innercooler later on, an
adjustable suspension, WRX fuel pump, bigger injectors, some Recaro seats, 5
point harnesses, roll cage, Jet packs, air vents on the roof... ummm... Am i
missing anything?

I purchased a 93 Touring Wagon about 14 months ago with less than 65k miles on it and paid $7000 cash plus a 94 Taurus worth about $2500. The car was perfect body-wise and the interior was in very good shape. I put 15,000 miles on the tires before replacing.

I would certainly do it again and if another one showed up here I would buy it for my wife. The car is a ton of fun to drive with no modifications. I have had lots of fun surprising the guys in their cowboy cadillacs here in Omaha....


Other than hitting a rock and putting a hole in my oil pan the only problem I have had with the car has been an intermittant problem with it accelerating. Once a month or so it has failed to accelerate when asked to. The problem has been narrowed down to the mass air flow sensor.

I just got my 93 Touring Wagon with 86k for $7500...

Go for it. They made less than 3000 of them, ever.

Little steep for $6K IMO. I bought a '91 just a couple months ago for $3500 in near perfect condition w/ 135K miles, no turbo. Mmmmm.... Turbo. Turbo good!

Questions: is it an L or an LS? Automatic or manual?

Information: The '93 is the MOST reliable HISTORICALLY of the legacy's. This doesn't mean it's not going to break. Things to check/ask about: The sun visors have a known problem - check operation to make sure they don't just flop down when you touch them, or hit a bump. The airconditioning liquid is expensive to replace - ask if it has been re-charged recently/if at all. And there is one other I can't remember... grrrr. Can someone help me out?

AHHH the good OL' MAF I don't know if I just seemed to be one of the
first with this ailing problem, or I just didn't notice it as much,
until I spent a year troubleshooting the problem....Anyway...they can be
a bugger to diagnose if you have no codes

While we're on the subject-

I'm applying to grad school right now (multitasking!), and if I get accepted, it means that I'll be moving back to the UK and have to let go of my uber-sub. My question is: How much should I ask? Here are the specs:

1993 5s TURBO sedan, white
Very clean
93,800 miles
Nitto NT-420(?) 140mph tourng tires (<10k mi), NEW Firestone (I know) snow tires (<1.5k mi)
Hella lights, new filtercharger, new plugs & fuel filter (90k tune done 1k ago)
Tasteful (but unnecessary) single blue (interior color) pinstripe (NOT MY DOING!)
Probably will need new rotors next summer

This car is a blast, but I hope to live off the money.
They do have biturbos over there, though!

I'd driven lots of cars never a Subaru, brought my legacy Turbo Estate 3 weeks back, I was amazed!!! you can drive like a complete nut and the car just loves it errr at least thats what my friend told me, when he borrowed it.

Imagine zooming down a steep bumby road in a normal car..... eyes wide open in terror, engine screaming, the car bouncing up and down left and right.

Now imagine driving down the same road at the same speed in a Legacy.....eyes wide open with a mad grin, engine Grrrrrroowwwwwlllling and hissing like a monster, rock solid handling with tons of confidence.


See what I mean

Now go and strangle/straddle your bank manager depending on what sex you are untill he coughs up your money and run don't walk to seal the deal.

Seriously though all jokes aside I was in exactly the same situation as you three weeks back, the last thing I needed at the time was the hassle of a new car and all the crap that goes with it, after buying it and fitting a £15 (20$) boost bleed valve I have never looked back (and I'm a miserable British bloke).
