Whats this grey connector go to?

Coming back from a hiking trip, just got done driving 30 miles on gravel roads and the car suddenly died. Looked around the engine bay and noticed a wire broke off right at the edge of a connector! DAMNIT. Stuck in the middle of no where and no way to fix it, I thought.

After some McGivering, I popped out the connectors, stripped off the last 1cm of brittle wire, twisted on the wires from the harness, inserted them into the connector, crossed my fingers and started the car. Bingo!

Anyways, what the hell does this connector go to? It's on the right side of the engine and obviously the car won't run w/o it connected.

I need to get a new grey connector that goes into that harness, which shouldn't be too hard. What should I do about those brittle wires though? They go back into the main wiring harness, so cutting them off and soldering on new ones will just move the problem somewhere else, right? What are my options?

I think that it's either the cam angle sensor or crank angle sensor connector.

The white one right next to it is the other.

As far as fixing it, you pretty much have to go back into the harness to some good wire and put in new stuff.

That's either your crank position or cam position sensor...can't remember which color is which one right now...

Aren't those the wires I told you to tape?!?! :o

Just go hack one off a car at a junkyard and then go splice happy

Well crap, I *must* go to a junkyard and buy that connector since even the subaru dealer doesn't have those parts available.

not sure what the wires go to, but if all your wires look like this, you better make sure you carry a fire extinguisher with you for the upcoming under hood electrical fire.

Those plugs are bare because I ripped them out of the connector for a temporary fix.

Went to Aarons auto wrecking today and whacked off a new connector, for free :). I'll solder on the new ones tonight and should be good to go. Think I'll wrap all those wires in tape and plastic tubing too.
