Hey,
My buddy got a JDM BC engine with GOLD v-covers.
There was some note about STi on his invoice, is the a RS/RA engine??
If it is what are the goodies this has?

RS-RA's did come with gold valve covers aswell as a gold awic. If it is a real RS-RA motor, then it is a real piece of work. It was buillt by Sti, with the craziest hand ported cylinder heads you ever did see. It has all forged internals with a closed deck block. I real find, if its real.

check splinters build thread. He has one he is building a car around.
As for real RS-RA, it should be signed by someone at sti, and you should be able to see the porting/polishing.

Yup , I did a search on "Gold Valve Covers" & the Rs-RA stuff popped up.
The V covers definately look OEM, the AWIC is MIA.
The invoice said BC STi, x'd trans......& the motor has the Gold V-covers so I believe this is a RS-RA.
Is there any way to ID the motor from the outside (without removing the intake man. & looking @ the ports, or taking the whole thing a part to look for the techs sig on the crank....)?
It does have the graph-paper boxes cast into the bellhousing area of the motor which is supposed to mean the motor is closed deck.

If it's a real RS-RA, the heads will be numbers matched, but you can't see the numbers without removing the timing belt and valve covers. However, where a serial number would normally be stamped (on the top between the pair of runners for the intake manifold) there will be an "S". If you do a search by my user name and "RS-RA" you should be able to find my teardown thread with pictures from before I sold mine to Splinter...

I have nothing to do with that motor or ECS, I just put the link on here because I figured folks may want to see/have interest in this.
