EJ20G in limp-mode. Possible causes?

What could be causing an EJ20G to go into a limp-mode? (engine cuts-out at 3000-3500rpm). All of the sensors seem to be connected fine and there are no CEL's.
How can we check why the engine is in limp-mode?
