Well,
I just finished reinstalling the engine and 5 spd in my '92SS and cracked the insulation on the little pink wire that terminates in the knock sensor connector under the TB, it appears to have become terminally brittle after 265k mi. Is there a convenient splice point on this wire or can I just splice it where it's convenient for me? Any resistance issues/gauge restrictions on it? and where would I get the new terminal contact?

I just recently made the same repair. Got the harness side of the knock sensor connector from Aaron's Auto Wrecking in Seattle, 1-800-541-7271. Have them give you about six inches of wire with it. You probably already know that you will have to strip the wires to get the shielded piece separate from the inner wire, then splice.

If you still have the original knock sensor after that long....you really should go ahead and replace it. Subaru has put out an updated sensor that is supposed to help eliminate the brittle insulation issues which can cause grounding of the sensor.

Cool, I'll look into it,mine has a crack in it so it's probably due. I have a N/A ej22 with a good sensor on it (no cracks ) and the wiring io it is still flexible. It looks shiny and new, I might try it first.
