cam angle sensor

I'm looking over a '94 TW and possibly thinking of buying it. The CEL is on and the only code that comes up is the cam angle sensor. The car drives like it's in limp mode, definitely no where near the output of a turbo engine.

My question is: Has anyone had the experience of ONLY the cam angle sensor code come up and once fixed, had the power retored to the engine? I ask because if there's a good chance that replacing the cam angle sensor and/or its wiring will solve the problem, then I may take a chance in buying the car. But, I don't know for sure if just the cam sensor can cause the huge power loss that the TW is experiencing.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreicated! TIA!

My cam/crank angle sensor wires recently broke, because of brittle wires right at the connector. You might consider checking the connectors (around / under the throttle body area) and wire harness.

Yes, I'll check those wires! thx!

BTW, how does your car run after fixing the sensors and wires?
