i heard that Outback struts and springs will lift a Legacy about 2", just dont know what years fit

i thought about getting nice wheels and tires and lowering it, but i just dont think it will ever really perform great without more money than its worth
i think id much rather have an off-road machine, since i already take it mudding fairly often, theres allot of stuff i cant get through

To do it right you need the struts and the spacers that lower the saddle (thus motor and tranny) and the rear saddle and diff. Otherwise you get bad CV angles. all of it comes off the outback.

What if I swap the entire strut assembly?

I swapped my assemblies with those from a 98 Outback and gained approx. 5". The only bad thing so far is the handling improvement of my 20mm rear swaybar is gone. :(

I'm not gonna run a rear sway when I lift my legacy. I don't want that connection there.

I've been putting some thought into this and have seen some WRXs with forester spring and strut assemblies, I am not sure if it would work with a legacy though.

are there any negative effects of making strut spacers as apposed to getting outback struts/springs? i dont think i will be able to get as much lift out of it is the only problem i can think of, unless i swap the bolts for longer ones to put in a bigger spacer

this is what i meant, a spacer to go on top of the strut mount. the limiting factor is the length of the bolts in the strut mount, but i might be able to put some longer ones in somehow

the one in this pic is 1", he welded in longer bolts

You'd run out of 'down' travel on the lower arm sooner. I imagine they'd give you more positive camber, as well. But then, if you're lifting it, you're prolly not too worried about the handling.
