My brother has 94 legacy MI 2.2 non turbo and it has no top end power. it had a really lazy low end throttle response but that was due to the bad Oxygen sensor which has been fixed. but there is still no difference between half throttle and WOT no matter how high the rpm is?? also just the other night it was making a clicking sound somewhere in the engine compartment and every time it clicked the rpm would change i'm not sure if any of these things are related. taking a shot in the dark i would guess a TPS but i really have no clue
Any help would be Awesome!!!
Thanks
Ben

Have you checked the ECU for codes?

hey sorry i forgot to mention that and yes i did and the only one that came up was the oxygen sensor which as before mentioned, was replaced and the code is the only one in history now. the check engine light is not on and there are no other, or new codes.
Thanks

Dude, you have to tell us more than "it was making a clicking sound."
Tell us more about the clicking sound. Was it regular? Every second? Every few minutes? Randomly? Did it seem to be clicking back and forth, or just clicking? If the former, did the engine speed seem to switch between two levels or just change seemingly randomly? Was this while the car was idling or while driving? Any idea where in the engine bay it seemed to be coming from?
But anyway... do you mean that there is literally no difference between half and full throttle? That makes me think restriction... like a clogged catalytic converter or a clogged air filter.
Have you tried to clear the codes? Try to clear the codes. Firstly, it'll make sure the oxygen sensor's good now. But also, it's possible that the ECU remembers bad fuel trims from when the oxygen sensor was bad, and clearing the codes will get rid of them.

well im passing this on for my brother the clicking noise went on for a minute while idleing he turned the car off and started it back up and it went away. I will try and get some more info from him when i talk to him next time! No he has not cleared the codes but i will get him to do it!! also he removed the exaust right before the cat and drove it. It didn't make any difference. I will ask about the air filter he is an aeronautical engineer and he does sometimes miss the obvious

yes i do mean NO difference between half throttle and full throttle!! Sorry for the lack of information Im tryin!
Thanks for your help and i will post anything new he tells me

The clicking was just sticking lifters no biggy. Just tell him to check if his oil is good and if he has oil lol just to make sure. I suggest a good tune up. New plugs, wires, air filter, PCV valve, fuel filter, and dumb some seafoam in the gas tank or fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank.

I'm thinking the problem is buried a little deeper than that.

HAHA sorry guys he just reminded me that he had his 180k service done a couple thousand miles ago and yes it was done by a very reputable subaru "only" shop! so i belive most of the "normal" stuff was replaced! also the rpm changed from like 500-1500 and is was jumping around in that range every time it clicked

Have him take that sucker back to the shop and have thme look at it for free. Its as easy as telling them you arent satisfied and youd like to know whta they did to your car. At least at the end of it you get a free dignosis.
