Vf10??

I'm currently running a tdo4 turbo on my 91 SS, some time in the very near future I'm buying a closed deck ej20g that came out of 89-94 jdm Legacy RS, so here is my question does anyone here know what cfm's that a vf-10 puts out? Is the Vf-10 bigger or smaller than a tdo4???

Do you mean the turbo that will come with the EJ20G? If so then it won't have a VF-10 if the engine came from an RS.

I know it doesn't answer the question at all, but I just want to clarify if you are using the turbo that will come with the 20G.

It depends what tranny it had to figure out if its a vf10 or a vf8

the manual RSs had the vf8 which is definitely larger than the vf11 and is noticably larger than a vf10

the auto RSs had the vf10, which is noticably larger than the vf11 but smaller than the vf8

Now, in rare occasions you can find a manual RS with a vf12. This is larger than a vf8... It is just a tad bit smaller than a td05-16g.

So the sizes are:

vf11
td04
vf10
vf8
vf12
td05-16g

As for CFMs I dont know. Maybe Nick can chime in here?

This motor I found locally in Denver, the motor is an ej20 I believe its an ej20g. It has an awic, if the turbo is good I will try the vf10 that is on it and since its a bigger turbo than a td04 I would think that this motor swap and turbo will be an upgrade

What color is the AWIC??

If its silver than the turbo is a vf10

If its black it is a vf8 or in rare occasions a vf12

If its gold (which it is not seeing as it would be a rare and amazazazing RS-RA motor) it would be a vf12.

Since your sure its a vf10... GO FOR IT DUDE!

And all this info is what I've gathered from rslc...

awic is black and the turbo is definitely a vf10 with a 90 degree compressor inlet I have to go back and look at the motor to see if its a closed deck or open deck, If the valve covers where gold I wouldn't leave its side!

ah... huh

Good to know! I s'pose I was told wrong then. Interesting!

So, yeah, a vf10 is definitely an upgrade.

I beleive 555BCTurbo said that the vf10 is a vf8 with an 18r hot side... I honestly have NO clue what that meant. But maybe someone else does?

I believe the vf10 has the same compressor side as a vf8, but a different hot side (18R). From what I've gathered the vf11 has a 15R hot side, vf10 has an 18R hot side and the vf8 has a 20R hot side.

Ding ding ding!!

You got it...

btw Spencer...the color of the intercooler indicated whether the car is facelift or not...

Silver = preface

Black = postface

VF11 - All USDM Legacy Turbo
VF12 - All manual Liberty RS, manual Legacy UK Turbo

VF8, VF12 - 20R
VF10, VF11 - 15R

There is no such thing as an 18R housing.

VF11
VF10
TD04
VF8
VF12
TD05

Smallest to largest

Then how come the last few VF10s I have looked at say "18R" on them?

Because you can't tell the difference between a 5 and an 8?

1. Quit being such a fuckstick...

2. Where do you get this information that there is supposedly no 18R turbine housing?

Why do I need to prove to you that you don't know what you're talking about? If you honestly care, google it like I did, or just go on doing what you usually do.

This OT conversation is done.

Actually the RS-RAs got the vf12 as well...

The VF12 was an export turbo, no JDM Legacy got it, and since RS-R, and RS-RA's are JDM only they didn't receive it.

Wrong. Prove it.

I have my proof

Aerotechs RS-RA motor came with a vf12.

Hate to admit it, but SemperGaurd seems to be right in this case. Here's a good page with all the model info.
http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/catalog ... agina=RHB5

P.S. there's no need to be such a jimmy hat about it all

Hmmm..... now I think I know what turbos the old EA Subarus used. I've always just seen them referred to as "IHI RHB5" when people sold them..... but apparently that entire list is the "RHB5" line :P

Yes...in my research I think he is right too...I must have been seeing things?!

But the main issue is how he acted about it...people make mistakes, but you don't need to be a dick about it...

As my good friend/Subaru Mechanic Dale says "I know everything, just not all the time."

Yeah I don't get why some people need to swing their dick around acting like their all knowing. Sure a mistake was made, but there's really no reason to be an arrogant asshole about it. This site is different from many others in the fact that it's a community where people help each other in a positive way. We all share the same passion and we're here to learn new things, not smash on each other...end rant.

I don't think he was the first guy to act arrogantly in response to someone, seems to be happening more often lately.

I saw a VF10 off a EJ20G Legacy for $50-70 on RS25 a while back.
