well it happen I snapped a Joint this ugly.
taking it to the shop in the morning . this happen as we were just leaving the gas station ...why this happens on filling up..
the wagon been having some power steering problems but this came out of no where as I looked at the drive shaft when i just had the cat done a month ago. Plus i have them look it over when at a shop wile getting the rear brakes done.
I have been hearing a ping during back up off and on as well/
I have has a studded when turning but that I thought was from the power steering starting to go. (the studded was at slow speeds and out turns).
Not she how much damage yet but for what the camera got shifting is like not good and the engine will start if that is good.

I bought a '90 wagon that had broken the same U joint. It wiped out the shifter mechinism and the cable. I just threw in a spare driveshaft and shifter I had, but swapping the cable wasn't fun, it attaches right under the firewall, and I have big hands.
Total cost to fix mine: $0 (had a parts car already), and about 4 hours to swap everything.
Good luck on yours.

I'll have them check the cable as they are looking for parts for fixing this as the yoke is bent as well .. this was not fun but I am happy it happen at a low speed than at 50mph .
I has 190E Benz that snapped in the same place it was not good as i was at 55 to 60 mph on a 2 lane road with drop into pond on one side i was on .. i cut it close to the edge and tow truck drive was asking how I stopped with out going over..
It was bad the shifter just blew up then sat back in place a there the sound of metal on metal was not good .
My wife and our room mate were with me this time and were shocked at the sound but i knew what it was .. I just pulled over and cried a bit .. I hate having a good car go down and this wagon has been good over all .
I'll keep all posted ..

The Shop called and said they one place that could help wants too much for a re-built driveline.
Any one know a place in the Sacramento area that would have a good used Drive shaft? I called around but no one seem to have Subaru parts that will work.
The yoke is bent on mine as so the Joints need to be replaced but these welded in place so you can't just switch them out.
this really is getting me down..

Well i had to track down a shalt as the one shop the repair place uses want like $360 to $400 for rebuilt one I found a used one for $200 and it cost me $14 ship from where they had it to the shop. I had told the shop to check the shifter 4 times.. I called them to ask how the instill is going they said its done but we can't get the shifter to move..DOH!! I said I told you that it was most likely messed up..The look found the shifter is bent but they bent it back and its little clunky but it works..I think I will check it out in the morning and see if it needs more time on getting the shifter replaces the cable was ok it was just binding due to the shifter being bent.
I just need to find out what part they need and call around and hope i can find it I don't like shifting and feel think not moving smoothly .. i don't think anyone would ..
Thanks

Wagon is home from the Shop $170 even for them to install the drive line and to bend back the shifter. Shifter is bit off makes the plastic housing creak a bit but seem to drive well.. the shuttering i thought was the power steering was the drive shaft going out so I was lucky it wasn't at highway speeds when the join failed.
It cost $384 all together but now i know more on what to do when i start to hear the same sounds.
Thanks for the input all
