'92 Legacy - won't start

I have a '92 Legacy w/ approx 150,000 miles on it. I bought it a year ago and it has been a great car. One morning a few weeks ago I got in it to go to work and it would not start. This is what I've checked so far
Timing belt is intact and timing marks are in proper location per manual
Compression is 1=145, 2=125, 3=140, 4=115
I am getting spark at all four spark plugs
I am getting fuel to all cyliders - but possibly too much. When I've pulled them after attempting to start the engine they have been visibly wet with fuel
While trouble-shooting I discovered that the negative battery cable was not connected to anything at all. I bought the car from a person that had a new starter installed at a local dealership; I picked the car up from the dealership. Apparently they forgot to reconnect the negative battery cable. The car has run well for the last year although the Check Engine light would periodically come on when starting the vehicle when warm, i.e. after a gas stop.
The engine cranks over fine but will not fire. I am wondering if the ECU is damaged from running without a proper ground all this time. Or perhaps the crank and or cam sensor is not functioning correctly. I guess I don't know what to check next. As I said, I've got spark, fuel and compression. It seems as if the spark is maybe not occuring at the correct time, i.e. at BDC or something.
Looking for suggestions.
Thanks,
OM Gang
