Does anyone know when the WRX changed to a ball bearing turbo? I have
seen a ball bearing unit that was supposedly off a WRX and I have a
chance to buy a turbo off a '96 WRX model TD05H and was wondering if
anyone had any info on it.

Alan,

I believe '96 was the last year for the bigger TD05 turbo and no it is not
a ball bearing model. The BB turbos came on the STi models only and are in
the VF model lineup, VF23 rings a bell. Don't take this as the last word
though as I may be mistaken. The TD05 should really wake up your Legacy
though!

Has anyone successfully installed an upgrade IHI turbo on the Legacy??
If so how did you run the intake to the turbo. From what I can see
with the turbo intake "snout" being straight there is not enough room
to turn the corner to make the intake vertical because of the manifold
being in the way. One way would be to run the intake pipe under the
manifold and then turn but it looks like the pipe would have to be
smaller and require a custom intake setup.

Might do it but it is close as far as I can tell and would probably be
hard to install and I am sure they will want a quite bit for a 90
degree silicon hose if I could find one. Might be better to weld a
Aluminum one on but then there is the problem with the weld on the
inside.

I have actually just broken that plastic piece of shit pipe and need to fix
the problem. It is broken where the blow off valve stem is. I have fibre
glassed it for the time being. I was thinking of buying a silicon bend and
making the rest out of stainless. Your right about how tight it is.

A nother thing I was going to get what is called Goodyear gortech. It is
red. If you have a Pirtek store in the states try there. It is Silicone but
made for steam. I need 50 ID, 90 degree bend.

You are correct in describing the stock intake setup as a peice of
shit mine is also patched but I haven't even checked the price on it
as I am fairly sure it will be very high even at my price. I started
this a turbo upgrade project and am now thinking that a replacment
intake boot is possible and needed.
