Anyone know of any company that produces copper or metal head gaskets for
the 2.2 NT? What are benefits/downsides of upgrading to metal?

Personally, I prefer the latest composition gaskets. The steel type is only
really necessary on very high performance turbo engines... and then with
O-rings.

If you call around to some peformance shops someone should know of
someplace that will make them..You just may have to send in a gasket
to copy..peco does this..I think they have a little web site at
www.peco.com, or something like that..You usually only need copper if
your rebuilding you engine all the time, becuase they can be reused
but it will corrode much faster than a regular head gasket...At
autospeed.com they build up a 300hp ej20 turbo subaru motor and used
factory gaskets..
