I am doing the clutch in my 91 SS and need to know how much effect on drivability that a lightweight flywheel would have. It's a Centerforce dual friction clutch, but the rest of the engine is stock save for headers. In my town it's a pain in the ass to get anything machined so I just needed to know before I go and have the stock one machined. Buying new would be easier for me. Anyone have experience running this setup? I know about the clutch setup from another post, but what about the flywheel with this clutch?

I've got the exedy LW flywheel for the WRX. It does affect drivability a little bit. You just need to be more aware of how the engine is reacting, because it's not as forgiving.

I picked up the 'ACT Streetlite' for a 2002 Impreza RS for my push-style clutch (doubt flywheels matter between push and pull)

part number was 600185. weighs 13.4lbs, I think the stock one weighs nearly 20lbs, so it's pretty significant.

you can get them as light as 10lbs, which unless it's a pure road race car with a tough transmission I wouldn't recommend it.

my drivability has gone down considerably, but that's partially due to the four puck sprung clutch I'm using as well.

I still stall the car I did it twice last week.

I have the exedy WRX lightweight also (14lb) with the exedy WRX clutch

I would say that the effect it has on driveability is positive in that it makes things more precise and quick to react. Less waiting for rev match on upshift, faster and more precise rev matching on downshift.

I am running the 13 lb one with the centerforce clutch. But I have upgraded to the WRX size clutch/flywheel.

Other than the pedal feel is way more, the smoothness and drivability is still very good.

I'm using an Exedy Hyper Single which comes with their 9lb. flywheel. Its not horrible, but I do have to pedal it to get going. It's even lighter since it has their aluminum pressure plate cover. I do kill it once in a while, but oh well. I can get deal with getting laughed at once in a while. Its not only the light flywheel, but you have to consider how grabby the clutch itself is. Since mine is a 6 puck its like a light switch.
