Hey i have a few questions for you subaru experts. I have a 93
touring wagon. I was wonderin when you turn the key to the on
position(click before u turn the ignition) are you supposed to hear
anything such as the fuel filter or any noise at all? Also how do u
do it to read error codes. For some reason my idle sometime flutters
lightly. i was just wonderin maybe there is sometin i have to do or
replace. the car has almost 97k. Any info is greatly appreciated

I don't hear anything on my 90 legacy, It's not like some of the cars you hear.
As far as the codes go....check out my webpage, under the Notes & Tips section, there is info on how to pull the codes and what they are. If you have any questions drop me a line. Here's my page www.personal.psu.edu/jcc189/subaru/subaru.html

A few Questions
In my 93 Touring Wagon you can not hear the fuel pump at startup time. I just replaced it and even with no fuel in the filter there was no sound from the pump when the ignition was turned.

It's not uncommon to hear the ABS unit go through it's cylce when you
turn the key( a slight humming noise that only lasts a second or two).
As far as the idle, it could be half a million things. The Idle Air
Control Valve controls the idle and they are known to get dirty
and/or go bad. Usually results in a fluctuating idle, and usually
gets better the longer the car idles. Other things could be the O2
sensor, ever-so-slight vacumn leaks, state of tune, etc. And other
times it could simply go away with doing an ECU reset. Good luck.
