I've been driving my 98 OBS for 1.5 years and have had an ACT Heavy Duty clutch and Fidanza LW flywheel in it for 10 months now. I've gotten used to the heavier than stock feel of the clutch.

I just bought my 91 SS and the clutch feels way lighter. Prior to buying my 91 SS I had an opportunity to drive an 05 WRX and the clutches basically engage the same as far as feel goes. I totally can't sense when the clutch is about to engage.

Is what I'm experience a result of a push type clutch (98 OBS) vs a pull type clutch (91 SS and 05 WRX)? Are pull type clutches easier on the pedal or is it more a matter of fact that the OBS has a heavier pressire plate? I don't recall the OE clutch on the 98 OBS being as soft as the 91 SS or WRX.

What are your experiences?

I do miss the feel of my old cable clutch vs. the hydro. Hydro is much more practical for beefy clutches though.

So that would be a yes, pull type clutches just feel softer?

I don't know about pull type vs push type, as there are hydro versions of both. I just noticed a more "disconnected" feeling when I switched to the hydraulic setup from the cable.

I personally don't care for the cable clutch on my impreza. It is a push style....so I dont' know if that's the case.

Hydraulic clutches shouldn't really feel vague. I have gotten rid of the damper in the stock system, and have a braided SS line, so it's a very precise feel

I have a non-damped clutch master cylinder, but I should make a braided clutch line and see if that helps.

I have a cable clutch on my 5mt Swapped touring wagon with a stage 1 exedy organic clutch and a light weight flywheel. ... i believe that after driving my buddies brand new stock wrx, feeling a hydro clutch and a stock cable clutch (on my old NA legacy 5 speed), then going to a heavy pressure plate on a cable (mine), THEN driving a wrx with the same clutch as my TW, i would have to say its the pressure plate. I think the hydro-clutch gives a softer feel through the entire sweep of the pedal (up to the friction point and through) but i think the feeling that you are feeling is the lighter pressure plate in the pedal

I do enjoy my cable clutch... its fun to have my friends drive it for a while, and hear them bitch about their leg being tired.... now on that civic POS i have (2001) its a hydro clutch and i SWEAR you could sit in the driver seat, lean your head over and BLOW really hard, and the clutch pedal would fall simply by air passing over it... its the lightest thing ever... i almost threw my foot through the firewall when i first got into it...

when it is really cold here in fargo (-25) the hydro clutch is not a whole lot of fun.
