how do i go about checking the conection from my fuel tank sensor and the gauge on the dash?
i noticed at times my gas gauge will drop way below empty then shoot back up, does this while moving and while parked on flat surface. only seems to do it when i have over 3/4 tank of gas tho

You more then likely need to replace one if not both of the fuel level senders. I similar issues I tracked down for over a year. Problems were intermittent. I finally bit the bullet and bought new senders.

They're not too bad, but they're also not $10. If you replaced both, you'd probably be looking at a little over $100 for both.

There is a product called techtron and it is made to clean the fuel sensor. See if you can get a hold of a bottle and see if it fixes the problem. With my car I noticed the same issue, and after I ran a tank of premium with fuel injection cleaner the problem went away. So it was either the fuel or injection cleaner, more likely was the injection cleaner.

i was having an issue with my fuel gauge being highly inaccurate. so the other day i took the left side fuel sending unit. moved it around, everything seemed good, so i tested it with my multimeter, when the tank is empty you should read 50ohms, when full it should be 1ohm, i had 44ohms empty and 2ohms full, a little off but not enough for me to worry about. i put it back to in an wow problem solved.

anyway, what i'm saying is take it out of the tank check how it moves, and test it, that should tell you if its done or not, and if your lucky like in my case, it will fix your problem.

That may work for a little bit, but you may have the problems come back. Mine were kind of random.

Like I said....replacing both senders was the sure fix for me. Maybe you'll be luckier.

I took a pencil eraser to the dirty part where the contacts are on the senders and it worked because mine were so bad, but it still wasn't 100%.
But, as stated above, it is just a temporary fix.
