I have EJ20G headers on my 92 Legacy Turbo. I had both sets side-by-side and could see no difference in diameter or flow characteristics. The EJ20 unit has a bung for an O2 sensor at the collection point on the right side, but otherwise they are identical except for part number. I had already promised my old headers to someone else, so I went ahead with the swap. I gained nothing. To the best of my knowledge, stock EJ22T headers are every bit as good as 22B headers. Spend your money on something more productive, such as an intercooler or ECU upgrade.

I was looking over an STi Version 5 motor this weekend and noticed
that the headers looked strikingly similar to the ones on the EJ22T.
Didn't get a chance to look and specifics such as diameter and such,
but the overall appearence was very similar. Maybe Justin got a set
of early ones that may have indeed be different?

It would be interesting to know what affect some porting would have
on the headers themselves. I know that when it comes to the headers,
size and shape are rather important and bigger is not always better,
but I know on the Mitsubishi's, porting the manifold is almost first
on the "things to do" list.

I don't know if the exhaust manifold from my EJ22 was different
because my car is a 91, or some other reason, but it was a bad
design. It would be interesting if someone with a 91 could take a
picture of their exhaust manifold to see if they are the same as my
old ones, or if I had some misfit ones.

A little to add here... On the Mitsu's porting the ex. manifold and o2
housing is almost a must if you are running anything over the stock 95-99
tiny turbo <Garrett t25>. And it really only pays off if you match port the
exhaust ports.

And Size does matter here. If you go too big you decrease the velocity
of the air and increase the lag of your alerady bigger then stock turbo.
Too small and it doesn't flow enough air and then your back at the turbo
lag..

Would any of this be beneficial to the turbo Sube engines? I would think
that with the exhaust manifold set up the way it is, IE really long
pimaries, that just keeping the paths seperate until the hot side of the
turbo would be the best idea. And keep the runners at about a 1 7/8th"
size. That's a little on the big side for a 4 cylinder engine, but the
ports are pretty big!

Has anyone made a custom turbo header?
