Hey there! I was wondering if i could run a JDM ecu in my 93 legacy turbo AT. Lets say the ecu is out of a 93-96 impreza wrx. Do you think it would work people? Do you think it could be chipped or tuned!
People i need your input!
Thanks!

I bet it could work. I know someone with essentially a WRX type 1 and the engine reminds me ALOT of the Legacy turbo. Most of the sensors are the same part number even.

WRX ECU is 4 channel ignition. EJ22T ECU is 2 channel. It can be done, look for my 4 channel ECU writeup in the electrical section.

If this chip the Fujitsu 27c1028 can be run in the stock leggy ecu that would rock!

Nobody has cracked the stock EJ22T ECU like the WRX ones. Finding the prom is quite literally only .01% of the work. You need to understand the contents of the original prom so you know what parts of it to change on the new one.

So. Can you make a ver. 1 JDM WRX ECU run in a leggy turbo??

The problem is with the fuel we get here. They get to play with higher octane at the pump than we do, so its tuned accordingly. Unless you want to mix all the time, it might not be in your best interest.

93forestpearl: The octane rating changes according to the region of the car. So in saying this here is my proof.

OOO ya. And think. I live in canada. You can import an JDM car aslong as it 15years old! I have seen a JDM WRX and many MR2's plus skylines! So i belive fuel for such a mod for me will be not a problem. Ill just run 92 in the car like i all ways do.

OK, I'll put it this way. A friend of mine was running a JDM EJ20G swap in his impreza, and it absolutely did not like 92 octane. Since he lives right by BIR, he mixed in a bit of 100 octane and it ran like a champ.
Why do want to run a Japanese ECU anyways? Chances are that the ECU is for a 2.0L motor. Running your 2.2 with it will not be good, as the calibration will be completely different. Different because of the displacement variance, the heads are totally different, and other things I really don't want to get into right now.
Unless someone is able to read, decipher, and modify the image, you are stuck. With that being said, even if you can re-flash the thing somehow, mail-order tunes are far from ideal. How long did NICO mess around with his before scrapping the idea for an Autronic?
If you are going to do the mods to warrant some tuning, get a MAF Translator Pro, or try a PP6. If you are gonna get serious, Link, Hydra, AEM, and MoTeC are solid options.

You do give a good point there. Seeing that NICO messed around for like ever on that....I guess one day ill run the autronics set up.
Thanks!
