custom aluminum a/c idler pulley

Since all the pulleys on my car are aluminum except for the a/c idler pulley, I started looking for a place to replicate it. I came across Maple Racing components up in Canada. He said he could do it and I sent the stock one up to him. What i got back from him is what I would call a piece of art. It is almost too nice to put on the car. The stock pulley weighed .62 lbs and the new one is over 2/3s lighter at .18. He did make another one or two so if anyone else would be interested he is wanting in the $100 to $120 dollar range. Highly recommend his work.

If anyone knows how long Subaru used this pulley let me know so I can get the info to him. I will get some pictures up her somehow.

So that pulley is met by the clutch that engages the pump, correct? Wouldn't the AC clutch tear that aluminum up? Also, how hard is it to even tear the old pulley out?

no that pulley is the tensioner pulley. It just keeps tension on the belt for the AC. it's quite aways from the AC comp

Anyone know how long Subaru used the cast iron pulley. I am pretty sure I have seen them on some early Impreza's. What about second gen Legacy's?

Tell me more about this group A lightweight alternator. How many amps does it put out and how much lighter is it?Then it would be cool to know where to get one. Thanks.

Haha, lightweight alternator PULLEY! I bought mine from turbometrics.com but I could not recommend buying from them. Took them 3 weeks to ship them to me and they didn't ship them til like 12 days after I paid for my order. Then I found out that they were in canada and that I got to pay another $40 when I got a UPS customs bill in the mail.

You can also buy them here.

why did you have to pay for customs? I've ordered stuff from Canada before and never had to pay any customs.

So far I haven't had to pay any customs on the pulley. I think alot of that has to do with the shipper and how they handle things on their end.

I am thinking of sending him my alternator pulley as the one I got from Colorado really doesn't fit and needs modifications. I know the one that MPC would make would be awesome.

I don't know how customs works but I sent a bank check to UPS yesterday for $40. It was customs taxes which I thought was normal but I've bought things from other countries before and never paid any cutoms taxes.
