so i was driving in a parking lot and my legacy cut out and would not start but i got it to roll start once i went to pull into a space and as soon as i let off the gas it cut out again and would not start. i have replaced the cam and crank sensor the ignition coil as well as the sensor on the firewall. It will turn over all day but it is not getting spark. it is getting gas. i noticed the was idel was a little bit rough for a week or two prior to the cutting off. Does antone have any ideas as to what could be wrong???

Plugged fuel filter, perhaps?

Clogged fuel filter usually shows a loss of power at the top end and would take a lot of time of that to actually kill the car. I go with the first two. Turn the key to one notch before the starter. You should be able to hear the fuel pump come on. Another thing you can do is try to start it, then pull a plug and see if it has gas on it. A little more work is to pull the timing belt cam covers and see it you can catch the timing marks.

No disrespect at all intended, but you might be surprised how fast a bad tank of gas can plug a filter and cut fuel pressure across the board. I fully realize that may not be the problem, but checking/replacing basic tune-up and maintenance items is always a great place to start, especially if it's been awhile. Besides, just checking stuff like that is
free.
That said, I fully agree that pulling a timing cover or two is a great idea. along with the other things listed above. Another thing to check is the woodruff key in the crank, it's not all that rare for them to give way and throw the timing way off.

+1. It's happened to me before. One of the "teeth" on the belt ripped and skipped a few teeth while at 5000rpm.
Or your crank pull got loose and caused the crank gear to move and throw your timing off (this has happened to me)
Or one of your idler's went out. If the bearings wear out, the timing belt can skip because of the trashed idler. (this has also happened to me)
If you say you're getting fuel, then I vote no on the fuel pump and no on the fuel filter...
edit: zomg! 1000 posts *sniff*

yeah i am getting fuel for sure and the fuel pump has less then 2000 miles on it, so i dont think it is that. I peaked into the timing case and the belt was intact, but i did not take it all the way off so i will do that i did'nt even think to check the woodruff key so that is on the list as well.if anyone can think of anything else let me know.
Thanks yall,

You can get a vacuum gauge to the brake booster line, see if you get 21hg atleast.

Good point, not sure why I would suggest that? You can check the compression instead.

the main pulley slipping wont keep the car from running. just the alt from charging the battery.

Of course it can keep the car from running. The same woodruff key also indexes the crank sprocket for the t-belt. If the key gives way, the valve timing will be thrown WAY off, even though all the timing marks will still line up.

Check to make sure no vacumn leak between the MAF and throttle body.

SLODRIVE, why would I feel disrespected? Good point about the bad gas. Didn't think of it, though with my experience in Detroit, I should have.
I don't think I actually read the first post right—he's not getting spark, but he's getting fuel. Did you absolutely confirm a lack of spark? You could pull a plug and ground it to the block while turning over to see if you're getting one. If you're getting one, then the timing must be off, which is most likely to just happen suddenly. If not, you're coil's not getting the signal to fire.

so its not the woodruff key it is in place and seemed to be fime but i still have to pull the rest of my timming case off to check the belt but at first glance the timming belt tenisoner pully looked crooked but i dont know for sure we will see soon. On another note when my car first stoped working three kids slashed my tires but the police got em so that will be paid for soon. I thought this would be a good time to work on my FMIC and tdo4 upgrade, so i will be putting that in soon, just have to put the battery in the trunk and cut two holes with the rottary tool. I have a 31"x12"x3"FMIC the inlet and outlet are 3", as well as the core also all of my piping is 3" is that to much for the td04 in the world of turbo lag?or will i be able to boost just fine? i do plan on managment in the future i have already looked into FDC and MBC aswell as bigger injectors and of course uppipe, dowmpipe and header i dont think i am going to do anything with the exaust other then that because it is already 2.5" if anyone has any imput let me know good or bad i want to know. Thanks again,
