Something really weird

-----------------------------------------------------
ok so i'm driving on the highway, and i recently updated my Y pipe to intercooler setup so i am not using the stock (terrible) plasic Y pipe anymore.
my setup is currently running to a (stock) vf11, until i can swap on the td04 i just purchased.
when i attempt to accelerate and get to at least 10psi, the engine just shudders and stalls and will not even go up that high.
i can't get past 3k rpms it seems like, and also i can't go faster than 55 on the highway.
this is really weird because it seems the car worked better when i had a huge hole in the Y pipe.
no codes thrown yet, i'm just really confused.
any help greatly appreciated.
thanks guys

Well, maybe you are hitting a fuel cut or something. The fact that the car ran fine with a serious boost leak doesn't mean much because the motor was not seeing all the air.
Try turning the boost back down to stock levels, and go from there.

Check your knock sensor/knock sensor wires.
Double check EVERYTHING for vacumn leak, then look again.

ok i will do that.
i have a FCD and a Manual boost controller, i will turn down the boost all the way to see how it acts on the way home.
also when i was driving to school today, i had to pump the gas...while driving to get the car to accelerate...?
When i floored it, it just staggered and nothing happened whatsoever. no acceleration at all...
i couldn't get going faster than 65mph on the highway... and once i got off the highway it threw a code, which i will check.
yesterday i made sure all of my bolts on the turbo and DP (vf11) were tightened down. all my intercooler hoses are tightened down and all of the ones on the rest of the intake are as well.
i'll report w/ results

If you are experiencing fuel delivery problems, then fuel filter and pump are possible culprits.
There are so many things can can cause this, ranging from electrical issues to air leaks to fuel system problems, that we can only generalize here, and it's really up to you to know if all your systems are being troubleshot correctly.

i know right.
i replaced my fuel filter last summer.

did this shudder start happening immediately after changing the y pipe?

yep.
also, i turned my boost all the way down last night, so its just at wastegate.
I see 5psi (max) with my gauge when i try to accelerate, except the turbo doesn't actually do anything as far as i know, it doesn't seem to spin or make (that much) noise.
i can't go faster than 60 on the highway, it just lurches and won't do anything.
when i set the MBC back up to like 10psi it will accelerate and then the turbo will kick in for like 2 seconds and then i just hear a loud "woosh" sound like, like i have a blowoff valve or something.
i'm running recirc so this is weird.
this leads me to believe that i either have a clamped hose somewhere.. or a hose is off somewhere that i didn't check last night.

Ok so update,
I just checked my CEL codes, because the car will throw them randomly when i drive on the highway.
i fixed all the previous stuff in this thread, but i still need to throw in the TD04, but i bet it would be a good idea to fix these codes beforehand
the codes are 32, and 45.
32= Dead Oxygen Sensor.
45= "Faulty sensor or pressure exchange solenoid valve inoperative"
These can be found
here:
according to that page, that "Prevents abnormal supercharging pressure using "fuel cut" in relation to engine load"
i put in a check valve to prevent fuel cut, and its installed correctly.
Any other ideas why it would throw this code?
And i guess could someone please explain the code 45 in depth if they can.
Thanks

If you have no vacuum leaks, running wastegate pressure and the BPV is in correctly, then you might remove the FCD and start back at the beginning.
Maybe try running the car at high idle with a friend and check for leaks or something - with your head under the hood.
I can always find problems better there than on the road.

Think i should install a new o2 sensor, new check valve, then reset the ECU and see if it still shows the code?
i guess my other option would be to just remove the fcd, reattach everything to stock, then reset the ECU and that will tell me if it's the FCD or not.
we shall see, thanks for the help

I know this will sound weird, but I kept getting a code 45, too. I replaced all of the atmospheric pressure sensors and even swapped the ECU with a spare one I had lying around (there's a pressure sensor in the ECU as well).
I eventually gave up on the problem and just had the 'F my life' attitude about it lol. Then I went to change my air filter and I looked at the MAF. Coated in oil. So I bought some MAF cleaner (~$4) and sprayed it down a few times to remove the oil.
Reinstalled the MAF and the new filter and NO MORE CEL. So yeah, try that out

will do, in addition to a broken speedo-something and the turbo swap i still hope to do
the CEL's im throwing are 32, 33, and 45......
thanks

To fix code 32, all you need to do is buy a new O2 sensor. When you do, buy the O2 sensor made for an N/A Legacy. It's $30 cheaper and exactly the same except the wire on it is a little longer.

Make sure all the hoses going to and from the boost control solenoid are hooked up correctly. Mine did the same thing and I found one of the hoses either disconnected or going to the wrong spot, I can't remember which.

i think i was throwing the boost related code b/c of my check valve.. .aka FCD.
maybe it broke or something? i did have in cranked so that's probably it
i have since returned to the stock configuration so im not too worried about that one.
the stupid CEL 33 is my biggest problem right now, as my odometer does not work and neither does my speedometer.
Lame... FML x 10

VSS not only affects speedometer, but affects the ECU, cooling fans, etc.
So do try and get that fixed.

+1 on the VSS causing this.

spark plugs maybe???

VSS?
what is that?
also:
today on the highway my car died after applying the brakes while coming off the onramp. i still don't know how fast i was going

cuz my speedo/ odometer dont work.
Ideas?
i don't think its a spark plug related issue because i changed them relatively recently.
i imagine it's Vehicle speed sensor related.

VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor.

very cool thanks SLODRIVE
also, does anyone have any recommendations for removing the gauge cluster? to get at my speedo to see it its connected?
i understand how to get @ the one that screws( yes i dont know what its called) in the transmission, but im not sure how i can look at it and see if it's broken or not

As I said, the VSS affects more than just the speedometer. All the problems you are experiencing are releated to the ECU not having the VSS input.
Fix that, and your other problems should go away. I would also suggest resetting the ECU once you've got the VSS working again.

ok cool, where is the exact location of the VSS so i can replace it?
thanks for the help too
