my cruise control stopped working last week. it was working then stop once a hit a small bump. i paid no attention to it, i just cut it off via the switch. this is what i could only do. the relay would click but nothing else.

today i followed the cable to the little round plastic thing mounted on the firewall (tapped it a couple times). i check the hose behind it. seems to fit but its not tight...should it be? i then followed it to the passenger side where i saw nothing loose or missing. i took the car out for a test, press the switch i can hear the relay click near the glove box, i press the cruise control handle down to set which then i hear an other click like its turning on? i let go of the gas but still nothing BUT i can control the speed with the handle if i hold it up to accelerate. also sometimes i'm not able to accelerate, i just get an other click when i press up. then nothing else happens.

any ideas? i thought maybe a bad relay or computer box? or even pump

-Solved- I went ahead and tested the cruise control out again, pressed the dash switch in then down on the handle and nothing. yesterday i found a thread saying to check the brake pedal because theirs a sensor to tell the CC to cancel out. so while on the highway i lifted the brake pedal up with my front shoe and held it there.... it works again! i was able to set the cruise control at a speed. i left off my shoe holding the brake pedal up to find it still working. :D :D

i did another test by lightly tapping the brake pedal on the left/right side because i said it all started when i hit a bump when it stopped. sure enough it did it again and the problem started all over again where i cant set the cruise control.

i come to a conclusion that the brake pedal is loose or something..too low? does anyone know what to tighten up down there?

Have you checked out that senor which touches the brake pedal? See if that pin is sluggish or doesn't move and needs replacement. The brake/pedal cluster tight against the firewall?

the brake switch is adjustable, and does wear over time. I have had the same problem in my truck and the subie. simply adjust the switch slightly to provide a more positive stop for the brake pedal.

Glad it was an easy fix.
