I want some feedback. Ive got a 93 L wagon, 5mt and just bought the 92 ss 4EAT. I want the turbo motor, but also the 5mt. Should I swap motors, or trannys? Which is easier? Ive done all my own work on all my subies (all 1G legacys, mix of sedans and wagons) and have done both a trans swap (dead 5mt to live 5mt) and also done n/a to n/a swaps. I work at a shop so Ive got acces to the lifts and tools, but Im torn between keeping the wagon which Ive done alot of work to, or starting off with a stock SS and working it up for some fun. Any adviceand or feedback from the peanut gallery?? -Smiley

Swapping an auto into a manual car is not really possible unless you swap the wiring harness, due to the eleventy wires for the trans and associated computer. Swap the motor into the wagon.

Yeah, I vote wagon. Wagons are cool. Wagons that eat ricers for breakfast are super cool!

My favorite sticker I've seen is, "You just got beat by a wagon

In my opinion, swapping engines will be easier. You can read up on various members' experiences doing swaps. The transmission swap is a lot more random parts to move over.
Off the top of my head, the engine swap is mostly stuff all attached to the engine except for the fuel pump, exhaust, crossmember, radiator, solenoids and sensor on the bracker on the passenger strut tower, and ECU. The wiring is limited to adding a small handful of wires and switching two of them around.

Each has its own quirks. None that you really can't overcome. I'd go with which ever vehicle body you feel more strongly toward.

I would have to agree.
BUT : Going from a Auto to 5 spd is not hard. Actually easier than going from N/A to turbo ( in my opinion)
Because when you start swapping out old crunchy harnesses, things start to break and then you get a lawn ornament.
